Any suggestions? I need something that will at least half perform if it's not snowing like mad. :D

Seem to be struggling a bit with winter tyres, reviews are a bit flaky.

Are you after a tyre specifically designed for the winter, or one that can cope with snow as well as wet roads?

In other words, is this a spare-set-of-winter-wheels situation, or are you after an all-rounder?

I'm after an all-rounder that would pass a European "do you have winter tyres on your car pal?" police check. :D

Oooooo. Interseting. I had them on my heavaly modifyed mk5 fiesta 2 years ago and really rated them. I know they used to be poor quality but i think they have cought up with the times.

Not an ex-UKFN'er are you mate?

Tyres are the biggest minefield in the whole of automotive debate I think, for every person who says x is great, somebody will say they're the biggest pile of tosh ever.

I usually go for Falkens as budgets, but have no idea if they a) Supply a winter tyre; b) If they're any good.

Andy

Omg I actually agree with a run of words, commonly known as a sentence, that you have typed.

Falken are an excellent tyre.

With regards to winter tyres, I have found the differences between mid range and budget to be quite small.

On summer tyres I think there are huge differences as generally you get what you pay for

The accelera tyres had were brand new and the compound was to hard(made great run flats though)in the winter i just used my original alloys and they were more than sufficient for driving in the snow,on my current car iam running pirelli's.will see what there like for winter use

:love:Well, shucks!

The Falkens are good, when you mount them the side-walls seem a bit thin compared to a top-range but overall I think they're the best "bang for the buck". Feel like a solid construction and they have a great 'cost vs. life vs. grip' compromise.

Thanks for the recommendation Paul. I might give them a go when I next need tyres because...

...personally I haven't found a tyre that handles in the dry, rain, snow and ice...

...at all. No tyre I've ever tried has been a good all-rounder. Which is why I have two sets of wheels for both of mine. Good Year for the summer, Uniroyals for the winter.

As Paul says, buy what you can afford. Falcons are ideal all rounder for me as they basically do what they're supposed to do, plus, i like them, they are in my price range. Oh, and, for all the years i've been motoring (who else remembers stage coaches and hansom cabs), i've never seen the necessity to buy "winter tyres" .
