So today was the unofficial opening of the new Queensferry Crossing, the replacement bridge for the Forth Road Bridge. It was quite nice weather, so, I decided to take a run across it and be among the first people to do so. Big mistake. It took me about an hour just to get to the approach of the bridge. It appears that everyone and their dog had the same idea. Eventually got there and made my way across, what an impressive drive. There are no joins in the road decks like the old bridge, a nice smooth drive all the way. I have posted these videos for anyone interested in seeing what it is like, hope you enjoy them. Just think, if you decide to attend Scotfest next year, you could drive over it yourself.

It would appear that the videos did not load properly, I will try again later.

I second what Al said. I've only been up there twice (both for Scotfest) but watching the thing take shape was awesome.

Incidentally, they're keeping the speed limit on it to 40 for the moment, until they start re-routing busses onto the old road bridge. But after that it will go up to 70 - presumably because there aren't any expansion joints, (wonder how that works?), the wind protection is so comprehensive, and there won't be any slower vehicles on it.
