Quick question about Abs

remember the abs pump needs to be activated to bleed the system or it wont function it will need to be hooked up to a comp for this

Can you explain this as when i swapped over all new suspension to front and back i bled system starting at furthest wheel from resv with engine on and my eldest boy pumping the pedal till i had good break action but ABS light on dash const on ,i checked connections ok there also with a (DBO PLUG IN ) and no code came up is it a self setting system or have i another problem???

I had abs light constantly on my dash on V6, checked all abs rings/wiring etc and no fault code coming up with dianostics. This usually means (as it did with mine) a faulty abs pump/unit. If the pump itself is faulty it can't send a fault code. With regards to bleeding the abs system after putting in new pump, it can be done diy without a garage comp which is the way I did mine.

You basically bleed the brakes as normal to remove all air bubbles. Then take car out and you need to engage the abs to force any air in the pump out into the brake pipes, so braking hard several times on a wet or gravelly surface is perfect. Do this and re-bleed as many times as you feel is necessary. Its obviously not as 100% safe as taking to a garage but alot cheaper!

Tks for reply as said done it manually brakes working fine even better than before wonder if i damaged sensor?? will any ford abs sensor do or do i have to get mondeo/cougar one as can check this way by plugging into each jack plug? The pump unit was working fine before removal and refitting said parts

Worth checking each sensor and rings and all wiring first i'd say :) I remember reading something on here about testing voltage in some abs sensor wires under rear seats as this can indicate a fault. Not sure if you can use universal sensors or not but im sure mondy ones will be fine. But if abs unit was fine before working on car its probably not that. Mine slowly went over course of about 4 months and its a mother of a job to replace. But if it is a sensor then it should throw up a relevant diagnostic fault code. Probably worth resetting ecu by disconecting battery for 10 mins and starting the car fresh, sometimes can make nasty dash lights go away :)

wont make any difference resetting ecu for the abs,if there is a fault the lights stay on,if the fault if found and cured lights go off automaticaly.if its an intermittent sensor fault then normally the lights reset then will come back on if the fault occurs again.check reluctors for splits or rust build up also check sensors for any crud stuck on them as they are magnetic bits of rust etc can become lodged on them
