I would like to ask has anybody on the forum that have had or have a cougar with a sunroof that has packed up replaced it with a glass roof or found somebody that repair them I ask because I have brought a really nice c2 with a knackered roof any ideas chaps.

Ive been wanting to fabricate some replacement parts for them for a couple of years now but I as of yet ive not been able to get any parts to take a pattern from :(

The problem with the Cougar sunroofs is that the runners crack. The issue has been raised numerous times in the past and what we could do with, as a club, is to take a functional set of runners and have one of our fabricator members replicate them in stainless.

I hereby propose that the setup costs could be met by club subs, in the interests of long-term benefits to club members, what say the holders of the purse strings?

Not totally sure what is wrong it only tilts and does not fully open so I had a fiddle it would seem the near side runner has broken as this was laying in the cutter that is the small piece that pushes the roof open as you say the runners are metal the only problem is I can't fully shut the roof I guess I should of just left alone. So my thoughts we're fit a replacement glass panel.

The cougars sunroof is not a universal size, i bought a mk3 mondeo glass panel to try to fit but the dimensions were completely off, not sure if there is a model of car with a panel the same size but it would be possible to get a glass panel made up, wont be cheap though

Thanks for that I did think about another car fitting but I will get a price from a window screen fitter I have found one local that also does sunroof repairs and see what they say I thought just asking as I think there must be a few cars with broken sunroofs out there.

Does anyone actually use their sunroof? I ask as I'm now on my 2nd Cougar and the only time I ever open it is to clean the seals once a year or so.
That new-fangled Aircon-thing does it for me. At slower speeds and cooler temps, the side windows are more than enough.

I used mine all summer, makes a huge difference having the sun on your barnet. Don't have aircon, got junked when the 4x4 conversion was done and I don't miss it at all.

I don't really use mine due to the fact I am a bit scared it might fail whilst up and no way of getting it back down. So I to would be interested in upgraded parts for it in the future.

I loved the sunroof on my first Cougar. Blissfully unaware of the known problems, I had it open on many sunny summer days in Germany. If I were buying a new car today and a sunroof was on the options list, it'd be ticked in a heartbeat.

I find them a bit of an anomaly. I did have a nice Escort Cosworth with a sunroof which was fine while driving, but still a bit warm on the motorway in high Summer. One very hot day near Warwick there was a traffic jam on one of the nearby motorways (I forget which). I almost went down with heatstroke. I spent two hours at Warwick services under a tree drinking water and trying to recover enough to continue driving. I vowed there and then to buy a car with aircon as soon as posdible and traded the Escort - which I loved dearly - for an ST24 with 75k on the clock.
Here in Germany it gets very hot in the Summer.... any time after March it can go above 30C. It's a necessity as far as I'm concerned. About four years ago it broke on my old Cougar and that Summer it hit 44C on about five consecutive days... days I had to drive 3 hours a day on... it was horrific. On the second day I drove the Mustang to work. Stuff the fuel costs...

I did see that listing and nearly fainted when I saw the price for that money I could buy complete cars I would say at a guess £300 would be fair but I guess if somebody really needs it then supply and demand.

I have to admitt my sun flap only goes up and down these days the slidey function seems to have given up the ghost long before i got frosty, it would be nice to have it slide again, but not overly bothered as it would entail a lot of hard work i suspect removing the headlining but it it is nice to pop it up on hot days just to get a bit of ventilation as i'm not a huge fan of useing AC too much.
