Hi all

after a massive bike accident which I won't bore anyone with I am forced onto 4 wheels until my injuries stabilise so I need a 2nd car. Thought it would be a good opportunity to get back into cougar ownership so am looking for a v6....found one I quite like but just need a quick bit of info (I have searched the forum but couldn't find a definitive how to check) my old cougar suffered in the wishbone department relieving me of the usual 400 quid which is something I don't want to repeat at the moment.....how then do I check that they don't need doing on a test run or with the car on the ground? I know about the usual rust and imrc stuff to look out for but anything else I should keep an eye on?

Unless the joints or bushes are knocking you won't really be able to tell. Tell-tales like odd tyre wear may highlight knackered ones.

Getting it jacked up and getting a gorilla bar under there is the only definite method though.
 
Cheers for the reply....it has just gone through an mot, initially it failed on two tyres and a bulb apparently which was easily remedied then had an advisory for surface rust on a brake pipe. I am hoping as that was the case they were ok but always good to check just in case!
 
Bloody hell things have changed if you can get them that cheap!:)

They are indeed. Not to mention that quite a few have been parted out before scrapping recently (for other reasons) and the owners have removed them and kept them as spares. I've got a set with only a couple thousand miles coming my way shortly.
 
Easiest way to check the wishbones is to turn the steering full lock on the ground, get a long breaker bar and from the front slide it into the subframe where the rear bush sits and test for movement, then turn steering to opposite lock and test front bush from rear, if you feel any movement the bush is worn
 
Can you really?! Man times have changed...will be interesting to hear how that works out from the first person to do it
