Roof rack plastic tabs

Two of the plastic tabs that are used to block the holes used to cover the roof rack slots in the roof have come out in the car wash. Ford as asking for £12 each :eek: I've gaffa taped them up for now and have phoned round the local (Long Eaton, Derbyshire) Ford breakers who barely have any cougar spares let alone these small bits of plastic.

can anyone suggest an alternative to a £25 bill or gaffa tape? (n)

Unfortunately these things are like rare hens teeth and as you say, are very expensive for a tiny bit of crap plastic. Unfortunately, I don't know of any alternatives either, apart from what you have already mentioned.


Mate, I don't know what your local Ford dealer was looking at? But, just had a look at "Talk Ford" website and they advise 77p each!!! from your local Ford Dealership ( I know they are talking about Mondeo's but the Coug bit should be similar price, I would have thought). See link:

I've just called my local Ford dealership and they told me £10.06 each + vat!! OMG!!!! I wonder if the Mondy ones would fit???

I think Mondy ones are the 'push down and slide' type that stay in the roof channel.
 
Best thing to do is this ..If you are never going to use a roof rack ..Super glue them in they will never come out ..thats what I did with mine
Another thing you can do is this go to a model shop (The type that's sells airfix and what not ) and buy some plastic card and maybe some milliput which is like a filler and fabricate some ..then glue them in with Superglue

Hmmm...great idea. Personally going to use some bathroom sealer on mine, just to hold in place. Not that I'd ever think about a roof rack...lol
 
Ummm just had a thought about my first post and using plasticard ..I forgot about a certain thing called the sun and heat ..so those could in theory melt .. let me have an ask around today

Thanks for the responses. I like the idea of looking at using some modelling plastic or some sort of rubber plug and a bit of glue. It looks like a previous owner had broken the arms that help keep the tabs in and had glued them in previously.

I'm afraid life is too short for me to not use the car wash, so whatever I choose needs to be car wash proof. If all else fails I'll pay the £25. I'm used to stupidly expense parts...I have a old Honda motorcycle!

I've got 3 Blurple ones spare but the two tabs are missing on all of them; should be OK to glue in though.

I glued mine in the day I got the car with poly foam glue (the stuff used to bond foam flyer radio control planes together) . Superglue is not heat resistant and will come unbonded with all the changes of temperature, so a flexible glue is better. They've not fallen out on me since.
