Signs the wishbones need doing?

If they are noisy, it's a sign either a bolt or bolts are loose, or the ball joint is falling apart or the bushes have disintigrated. Is you steering vague or can you feel any differences in the handling? General check sounds in order Jim. If you have a noisy suspension i would generally check everything around the suspect area, ie broken spring?

It's Jaffa Alan - there's bloody horrible knock over slow bumps but having looked I can't see anything wrong anywhere. The struts, springs, drop links and ARB bushes are all brand new.

Sounds like bottom ball joints to me Jim, get the car lifted and check them out. It's easier if you have help but ball joint play can be easily diagnosed by levering the wheel as you would for wheel bearing faults but you need to check more at the ball joint for any movement, also worth checking for bearing endplay while your there.

I'm with pid, only way to find out if to get your pry bar out and try and find where it's coming from.

Remember to check the engine and exhaust mounts whilst you're there too!

Before I did mine the car had a horrible knocking noise, almost what I would call a banging noise to be fair but I also needed all the drop link doing as well so that could not have helped.
It was the very first thing I did when I bought the car.

I don't know how much use this is, but on T's Mk1 (facelift) Mondy you'd feel a wishbone problem long before you heard it.

Mostly it was feedback under braking. A hesitancy, but not quite a judder. I've never driven a Cougar with shot wishbone bushes, so I'm not sure it it's the same.

So all things being equal, Paul's advice makes sense to me.

Well that was weird. Ripped it down, found everything to be absolutely fine, built it back up, took it out, knock gone.

No idea what was going on there but it'll do. :)

Sometimes all it takes Jim. I had similar with my rear suspension when i first fitted my eibachs. Slight knock from the back and it wasn't droplinks, checked the tension of the turret bolts and never heard a peep from them afterwards. :)
