Welcome to ukcougar.com BRYN.

Starter is obviously the cheapest option and easiest replacement so, get your hands on a starter, even if it's borrowed and fit it. If the grinding is still there, you have a faulty flywheel/ring gear. (y)

mine does it sometimes mate but i've learnt to release the key just as she catches which avoids it.

Funny though my old mans Scorpio has been doing it since about 1996 and its still going strong.

Al will be right though its the starter - I dont think they disengaging quickly enough as they get old and thats what causes the noise. No doubt it will take the ring gear out eventually and i will take mine out and clean it up when i get a minute between all the other jobs i keep avoiding :censored:
