Those with HIDs beware.....2012 MOT changes

Seems we're getting as harsh as Switzerland, where you have to have the underside of the car jetwashed before they will do an MOT.

Your road rally car? Outlawed. Grandfather clauses? Only for airliners I'm afraid. But hey! Look at the high quality of public transport we have and our investment in it! You can have fun on the bus!
 
if you have a small child in a chair in front of car you are supposed to turn off the air bag or not have one(air bag not kid) and when vicksters x reported me to plod for no booster seats whent to plod station and spoke to plod and showed him my rear seats he said the kids were safer in the bucket seats and useing a booster seat would be unsafe as the bottom of most are quite flat said with the cougar the side wiodow hight also gives protection with child as it would give a lot less if they were 4"higher on a booster seat ,so i took this information to vicksters x .lol but what happens to you if you go to mot and air bag is turnd off?
 
It's only law to turn the airbag off for a rear facing child seat and by disabling the airbag it will cause the airbag light on the dash to illuminate which is an mot failure

I wonder would it be possible to splice a switch into the passenger airbag detonation wires enabling you to easily switch it off for kids and flick it back on for mot and regular passengers etc? It could be easily hidden under the glovebox and the warning light would let you know if it's active or not

Should be possible, there was such a switch in my Alfa 156

It's very common in US cars as well. The airbags can be over-ridden with the main key, in a switch that looks very much like the ignition and is positioned at the vertical end of the dash, (the bit that's covered by the door when its closed, if you see what I mean). Or sometimes it's a switch.

The idea being that you can then fit a rear-facing child seat, or have a young-ish kid in the front with you.
 
Most UK Ford models have it as an option. The key hole is usually fitted inside the glovebox along the top lip the box closes against.
