after being quoted £96 to have my spare alloy re painted and polished i decided to just re-furb it myself(as it is only a spare anyway). Had the tyre fitted today and then went to put it in the boot, its a 18 inch wheel with 225/40 s on and it only just fits,it could nt be any tighter

You need an oval shaped wheel   as there is plenty of space at the sides.

Ok................................................I've got my coat, now wheres the door......

Yeh, that is quite a tight fit. I will be buying a 5th alloy (to match my other 4) shortly, but only have a 17 inch wheel, so should fit with no bother.

Where did you get the foam packing from Mikey? can you get it locally from any DIY outlet??
It is actually the proper ford one and luckily came with the car, god knows what ford would charge for it. I have seen people make their own by building a frame and then filling it with expanding foam- but if you do that you have to make sure you put a liner in first because it sticks to everything it touches

For £9.99 I purchased a neat little device which is an extension to the spare wheel tyre valve....braided hose....connects and extends way out beyond the spare wheel well. CLIPS on the carpeted side on the inner wing with velcro and has a little warning tab/valve (colour green) to show tyre inflated to correct pressure 60psi, changes colour if pressure drops. Just by looking in the boot, I know the spare is fully inflated to correct pressure and never need to empty the boot to get to spare to check the pressure......(you never do it anyway).....My spare has actually NEVER been used, thankfully.Confidence part is that if I EVER need the spare at least I know that it is usable.

Hmmm...thanks for that Mikey, will have to check the one in my Coug and the one in my Mondy! If the Mondy one is thicker...guess where that is going! lol
