G'Evening

im curious, has one obtained a valuation for their cat? Either for insurance purposes or just curious? If so where did you get this from?

i know you can do 'generic' ones online that will go off the mileage & age, but this does not take into consideration anything you have done modification wise.

I know some people will argue that modifications can also lower the value but I believe that if done for a purpose rather than chavvy body kits this should hopefully increase the value (obviously you will never get back what you put in)

Reason i ask is, some of you may know that the AA recently (3months ago) cracked my TB they are now trying to settle the claim, they cant source the TB from anywhere (ford dont stock it apparently) they sent someone out who took a quick look at the car and valued it at £600?! Im trying to get a cash settlement rather than a write off but i want to be prepared for worst case

To be honest I didnt expect much more but you cant really buy one with a long MOT & full ford service history for that:cautious:

I also have two spare (standard) TBs, and you're welcome to one FoC if it's easier (because I'm closer than Rich).

As for the valuation? I always say that the value of a thing is what people are prepared to pay for it. And if you're not trying to sell that thing, its monetary value is precisely naff-all.

But you're talking about insurance valuation. Assuming it's in great physical condition (for its age) and is mechanically sound, £600 is on the low side of fair for a mid-series C1. Which is to say, I would argue them up a hundred or so and chance my arm. For what it's worth, Tracey agrees and she works in the industry.

Hopefully if wouldn't come to that though. Because we can sort you out.

Ricky, if it helps any, I have a spare throttle body that you can have, F.O.C.

Thanks for the offer Rich, unfortunately its the ST200 TB that i need which seem to be like rocking horse ****

Im thinking of swapping it out & changing the cable back to fit the st220 they seem to be more avaliable

Does the standard TB fit on the st200 manifolds? (Never actually looked into it)

They're a different shape, and I'm not sure that the various aperatures match up. Never tried it.

This can't be beyond us though, right? I mean, we've got guys like Matt who love trawling the scrappies. We must be able to find you one, so you can then claim for the cost against the AA's insurance?

Thanks for the help guys! I have found one for £80inc shipping so should be here anyday soon.

but its raised the question, can throttle bodies be welded? I have 2, one that is clean snapped round one of the bolts & another that is only cracked?

My thinking is if they can be repaired we would then have 2 spare within the club, its took around 2 months to try and locate this one, which could be avoided :)

If I'd have known!! I've got a spare ST200 TB in the garage, left over from when I bought my ported and polished one from the states!! At least you've got it sorted now fella :)

Well it's aluminium, so yes, I should think so. I imagine you'd need to strip the TPS off of it first though.
