Only had the car for 2weeks ,still having a look around the forum but have noted a lot of talk about wishbones and the cost to get them changed !! what do I need to know and when should I start worring about changing them .Mine is a v6 1999

Start to worry when the MOT man says you need new wishbones or bottom ball joints. You'll only ever change them once. If they've been done by a previous owner before, you should normally be ok.

fitting cost me 70.00 and wishbones cost 205.oo and new bolt setcost 30.oo so start saveing and keep your eyes open on ebay for a cheep set sorry its not a cheep job but the ones on car if you think about it have prob lasted 12/13 years not like some cars wich need doing every 3 years or so

I didn't get any paper work saying they had been done so it's Fingers crossed till January then !! any idea of cost so I can get myself ready just in case .

As above

you can check them by jacking the front end up, and sticking it on axle stands, then, using a jemmy bar, poke the flat end in under between the wishbone and sub frame, if it moves its FUBAR, if it doesn't, it's ok at that end, as for the ball joint, not sure, did mine on my own total cost £200, bout 4-5 hours

Yes, ball joint can be replaced seperatley, but by the time the ball joint is ready, the inners won't be far behind, so it's always best and easier to just do the complete WB assembly (y)

I don't think that many would be that old, mine just about need doing at 83,000, the last ones were changed at 24,000 miles. Even on a low mileage car, rubber still deteriorates over time. You are looking around 250 quid for parts including the new bolts, I wouldn't worry unless you can feel excessive play, have abnormal tyre wear or the mot man tells you to change them.

That's plus VAT so £270 (maybe plus delivery) - also they're out of stock with no ETA.

So paynes is about the best AFAIK at the moment

Fair enough chap, I bought mine from them (although only bought one, as other side had already been changed) a couple of months back and cost me £144 inc vat and all the bolts and delivery. Paynes are very good - I use them for a lot of my spares.
