Wasn't this around the time when America went safety conscious and brought in all those ridiculous laws about rubber bumpers etc? I think the concept was just that, it never left the drawing boards.

That wad about a decade later Alan, concurrent with MGs dropping chrome bumpers in favour of rubber to meet US dodgem car regulations.

Possibly because someone from Ford realised it looked a bit too much like a 60's Vette
