1999 ford cougar 2ltr 16v wont start

Back to basics for a minute cos i've been busy all day and my head hurts .

When you turn the key, does the engine sound normal? apart from the obvious non start .
The fact that the cams are turning proves nothing except they are actually turning. If the belt has shredded or jumped for any reason, (usually left too long between renewals or badly fitted) then the engine could be miles out of time, hence the "normal" question.

Good point as usual Mr Pid, our resident short engine expert

all fuses have been checked and working, the immobiliser light goes off as normal, i have tried 2 coil packs 1 being brand new, there is power going to the coil pack, and yea when i turn the key it sounds just like it did when it was running  3 mechanics have looked at it and had no luck in finding the faults,

I think the crank sensor was mentioned earlier in the thread? Have you got a code reader? Seems strange how it just cut out instantly? Have a check round the crank sensor and wiring and check the camshaft sensor hasn't dropped out the back of the head as the securing bolt has been known to work loose.

i have swapped crankshaft censor aswell i did plug in a code reader and it come up with 3 codes was was p100 and cant remeber other 2, but when searched on line alot of sites said unrecognised codes

ok so a just done a scan on the car and the following codes came up as unidentified codes. P0100, U2017 and P06E0. any clues?

P0100 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Malfunction

U2017 Driver Side Crash Sensor Communications Fault

P06E0 Unidentified code. Possible ECU corruption
