1999(T) Black 16v

That's the key I have.
I had been told the two keys supplied would have been a 'master' red key, and the one I have, maybe the Cougar didn't follow other models?

A better explanation of the info I put in post no2:
they were originally supplied with one non-remote 'master' key with the transponder chip secured behind a red cover(not a completely red key) and one three button remote key.

I only had one key with my car.
I bought two remote fobs from ebay (a few quid each) and programmed them, below is the procedure I used.
I then ordered two cut keys from ebay, there are suppliers who will cut for you if you give them the Tibbe key code (google it, it's quite easy). These cost about 15 quid each, ready cut. So then you have a key and remote fob that will unlcok the car - but not start the engine.
To get the key to start the car you need to then get the transponders programmed, I went to a independent keysmiths and paid about 30 quid to get all 3 of my keys re-programmed.
Total cost was about 70 quid but I now got 3 keys and I can program any new ones meself.

Cheers

Remote Procedure
1. Turn Ignition On (II) and Off (0) 4 times within 6 seconds
2. With the Ignition at 0 the PATS LED should light continuously.
3. Press any button on the Radio Remote within 10 seconds
4. The LED should flash to acknowledge
5. Further Remotes (max. 4) can be added by pressing any button on each of the remotes in turn
6. Program mode will end if Ignition turned on, or no new Remote Detected within 10 seconds
NOTE: The first Cougars were 3 seconds instead of 6, and 20 seconds instead of 10.
NOTE: You must press all the remotes you want to use in a single programming step. Otherwise, any previously used remotes will not work any longer.

Progress so far.
My father should have known about the foglamps as he had a Mondeo Ghia:rolleyes: but he's getting forgetful. Well I now have a manual.
I have fitted the tailgate strut (thanks Scunny), freed and greased the bonnet catch (after trying to pull the release cable behind the footwell trim as directed by the seller) well it did open originally.
I have procured (ebay) the handbook/wallet/service book which differs from that which can be downloaded in pdf (from manuals.com) which I guess is either Australian or US version; the Chiltons book and the UK Ford Cougar 1999 brochure.
Also 1:18 diecast model o_O of Cougar (blue) to add to my model Ford collection!

My cousin has sitting on her drive her previous car, collision damaged, which is a P-reg Mondeo Ghia X auto - with cruise. I don't know what her intentions are for it, but does anyone know if that were scrapped would it yield partlist to fit cruise to the Cougar ?

Tyres fitted to the Cougar wheels are (four different branded) 225/60s, I see that there is one make of 215/60s listed/available in the UK and the online places direct us to 205/60s. What is the members' recommendation - I'm not looking to change the wheels?

I thought I'd ask about duplicate/remote keys at Timpsons (kiosk by our local Tesco superstore) which is listed as being immobiliser and remote programmers, and was quoted the following: ("The chap who does those isn't in today but I think...") key around ukp40 and remote around ukp100. That gives me reason to look into online sources.
...Oh. Oh dear lord! I think I've just had an incident. [/Clarkson]

I've been looking for a '97 V8 for a while now, but it sounds like I'm on a hiding to nothing. The only T-Birds I've found for sale in this country have been late 50s, or the 2002- blobs. Thehind the footwekk trim only 10th-gen one - which is what I want - that I've ever actually seen over here will not be for sale...
Might I suggest a Lincoln MKviii ? Very similar to the Thunderbird, but was available beyond 1997 and with the 32-valve version of the 4.6L V8. They occasionally crop up for sale in the UK too.
...Chris I'm sure I had a Matchbox model of a 90s T-bird, changed colour under hot water if I remember rightly!
The Matchbox one was the upto 1987 Thunderbird which was available 5.0L V8 and 2.3L (Pinto I4) turbo and I think it was the TurboCoupe.

Standard fit were 215/50/16, but they're hen's teeth to find these days and pretty costly if you do. 225/50/16s fit fine and are much more widely available at far more reasonable prices.

Good progress. (y)

Some of the cruise kit will be worth salvaging; the module and cable should be compatible with the Cougar.
The brackets might be useful depending on the set-up on the Mk1 Mondy.
There are some differences in the length of the cables though, Zetec ones are much longer than the V6 ones.
You would also need to source the correct cruise clutch pedal switch from a car with a manual transmission.

If it has them fitted the front footwell courtesy lamps and holders would be worth having.

Hello and welcome aboard. If you are looking for tyres for the OEM wheels, then you could do what I did and go to a 215/55/16. However, it would mean your speedo would be out ever so slightly. There are lots to choose from in that size, which is why I opted for those prior to changing to the alloys that I now have (BK 17 inch).

Hmm, good call. Same platform, too.

Just noticed the question on cruise...the V6 cable is too short for a zetec, but I'm fairly sure that zetec cables are still available new from your local main stealer!

Everything else will fit fine, just swap the airbags over to retain the cougar head :) and make sure you grab the module bracket! Remove the ns wheelarch liner and there's three small nuts to remove.

Unfortunately not a 1997; just relisted after reaching I believe £1600; 1993 Lincoln MKVIII
