70mph limit to be scrapped

There is a stretch of road near me were people do the accelerate...brake....accelerate....brake dance and you have to laugh as its only about a mile and there are two cameras + its only a 40mph limit, its about the only time I just stick to the limit but you still get the odd one or two who don't and have to step on the anchors (or the ones who brake anyway even though they are clearly doing 40mph as i'm right behind them doing the same....now that gets my goat) mind you my last 3 points were picked up after this stretch  when I exited the traffic island at the one end and booted it and got done doing 57 in a 40 or near-abouts by a cop with a speed gun! Nice :(

No Tim, that's Gav's car (ie V6 NOS as was, soon to be re-Christened "No Limits ST220"). It was Cougar asking the question about dials.

Another point on the lower speed limits, notice that in the old days....told to get up to top gear asap, don't flog the engine, be sympathetic towards your valuable asset and so forth.....so crawling about in LOW gears, high revs, is just another way of burning off more fuel, pumping out higher emissions....shorter times between fuel fillups.....cost more per week/month/year per car....more tax and vat to government............Total racket that Al Capone would have been proud to preside over....And as Jamie aptly stated....high speed limits lets wear out tyres out quicker......chop down more rubber trees/synthetic chemicals....ozone layer....global warming and the hypocrisy is astounding !

How fast may you have been going and what is the limit

I was doing 82-84 mph on motorway.

I was heading home from picking car up from Alan ( ace melon ) And I saw a yellow van sitting on the flyover but I thought it was just a motorway maintenance van cos all the camera vans up here are White, I had never seen a yellow one before !!

That was nearly 2 weeks ago and I'm hoping that with the paper work to change keeper and transfer private plate being sent the whole thing might get to confusing for them to follow up ????.… Hopefully ;-)

You will be alright I reckon.

For a start I bet your speedo over reads your speed.

Secondly...one of you would have to have received an nip through the post within 14 days of the offence

Do different forces use yellow vans Si ?? I have ever only seen white ones which are sign written on the side saying something like "Enforcement Camera Vehicle". Hmmm...will have to do some looking up via Googly thingy lol

Hmmm...just found this, although it is from the Cumbria Force:

I was stung at 82mph in Fife a while ago (my 3 years might be up actually?) by one of those Daily Mail reading muppets on a dual carriageway (70mph limit before anyone asks )

I have driven across a bridge(just east of junc.18 M4) with the cameras set up on small tripods above each lane with the leads heading off to the van hidden out of site of the motorway behind a hedge at the end of the bridge.

I am pretty sure that is illegal and they are not allowed to do that. According to the various enforcement websites, they are supposed to have the van in full view, there is also supposed to be an officer in a reflective jacket outside of said vehicle and there must be signs within a certain distance from the van as well. I'm sure Si will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I have read (Devon & Cornwall Enforcement). Otherwise this could be seen as 'entrapment' and you could possibly have a case to take to court.

Its a grey area.

Guidance (and i stress guidance) is that speed enforcement should be visible, and I know there have been legal challenges to the stealth officers who jump out SAS-stylee from behind a bush to lazer gun you.

When I have been with traffic officers, doing road side enforcement, our guidance is to wear high vis jackets and to stand 'proud' at the roadside.

The vehicle does not have to be in view, nor do we have to warn you of our presence.

The limit is the limit, and just because you feel hard done to that you were not warned is not a defence to an absolute offence of speeding.

If you were doing 60 in a 40....well, you were doing 60 in a 40
