99 Jag 3ltr

Apart from the fact the S type Jag engine is mounted sideways, so some fabrication will be required, also it's a lot higher at the top of the UIM than the cougar, as my dad has a S type R and i was thinking of nicking the engine...

The S-Type engine is different enough to park this under the "don't be silly" section. Completely different ancillaries layout, completely different inlet manifold orientations, completely different sump etc.

An X-Type engine could be made to fit, but you'll need an X-Type ECU, which needs X-Type looms and electronics modules to go with it. You'd possibly end up with a Jaguar electrical system to make it all work. And the inlet manifold is too tall to fit under the Cougar bonnet.

That S-Type's ECU will be expecting to communicate with the auto transmission too. And there's no way that's going to fit in a transverse/FWD setup!

There were manual gearbox S-Types sold - quite a lot of the old pre-rework (I won't say facelift, because the post 2002 cars only have the bodyshell in common) but even still, the engine is hardly a good starting point for transverse use with Ford electrics.

You've seen my engine Manos - there ain't no way that'll fit under a Cougar bonnet

wasn't thinking of a transverse fit tbh.
Even less room then.
Apart from fabricating a new bulkhead, transmission tunnel and rear suspension, plus a bespoke fuel tank, I doubt there would be room for the dash and centre console. With the larger tunnel, maybe not even enough room for the front seats!

With enough money and the right people on the case - pretty much anything is possible. However, easier to just buy an S-Type!

As with my V8 conversion plan that got shelved, you would need to cut out the floor pan from behind the front seats to halfway up the firewall. fuel tank off any 4x4 car and you would need the rear axle of a mk2 mondeo 4x4 or a subaru Forester to get the correct wheel base, front seats will fit if you use a sierra saphire awd floorpan but a center console would have to be built (y)
