A fair price ?

If they are well versed in how to do it, it may be less, but I know from people on the forum that on a drive way with a socket set it is a pain in the back side.

Unfortunately garages charge a minimum of one hour and rates vary from £30 to over £100.

I would get a garage to commit to a fixed price and go with it.

It may be more of a pain than even they realise when they start.

When I say commit, I mean in writing :)

Edit: I am assuming your car is a v6?

Yep it's a V6, it's a friend of a friend doing it, so hoping he will be nice to me, although by the sound of the work involved I don't expect it to be that cheap anyway.

I had ford do one last year cost me £280 inc a ford alternator
in the process of doing one myself and yes it's a pain euro parts doing a v6 alty for £92

Can we confirm that was £50 for an alternator swap on an early Cougar 1 alternator? If so, even I would go there to have it done lol. That's mega cheap!! If it's the easy alternator then it's about right.
