Accident in the snow

Sorry to hear of the damage to your cat Mark, but glad to see the club living up to its reputation yet again and coming up with the goods. Nice one to all involved (y)

I had a good look at that wing today, cleaned it up and a bit of a polish.
Its in good condition generally but has a few deepish scratches that wont polish out and a stone chip repair that didnt go too well by the looks of it.
ill get some pics posted tonight when i can get on the pc.

Finally got round to fixing the damage today. Progress was going good until the battery blew up..

Thankfully no one was standing at the front of the car, as the acid went everywhere. Think it was triggered by a stray spark, as my dad was trying to cut through a wing bolt at the time. Is this why repair manuals always say to disconnect the battery first :stop:

Anyway, we got the wing changed and managed to pull out most of the damage in the door. Still plan on putting the new door on eventually.

Didn't get any photos of it afterwards, I'll try and remember to take some tomorrow after I wash it.

Thanks again to Mart and Andy for the parts

hope you rinsed all the acid off everything plenty of water as theacid gets every where left uncheck could start rust problems due to paint removal, disconnecting wouldn't have made much difference, covering the top of battery or removing is the only way, spark igniting the gas from the battery was the cause, reason why they say no smoking whilst near battery when charging, also disconnect charger at mains/switch before disconnecting the leads on battery

Indeed. These batteries produce hydrogen gas.

Look up "Hindenburg" on Google for a description of hydrogen's compatibility with ignition sources...

Glad nobody was hurt - that could have been nasty!

I am so sorry.

Glad you're all safe though at least. I don't know what else to say about it. If you need any assistance, hit me up.

Sounds like progress is made Mark, minus the battery. I know from experience what one of those things can do. A friend of mine was left with a bald patch on the side of his head when he was too close to an exploding battery. He was peeking down the back of the rad on an old cortina iirc when it went, i was stood right next to him and got splashed with plastic and acid. Luckily, we were very close to a good water supply to rinse off. I only had minor irritation but for some reason, maybe the force of the blast, he had a mini comb over from that day.
Don't take anything for granted with these things.

It made us both jump a bit.

Cleaned all the surfaces the best I could with a damp cloth, might have another go at it tomorrow.

Went and brought a new 075 battery from the local motor factors with 4 years warranty, £73.

I will never look at these batteries the same again now, knowing how dangerous they can be.
