Took my cat in for mot today at the local garage where i always go,i have taken all our cars there for years so i know the lads very well and always have a laugh and a joke with them.
They have started a new mechanic who as soon as i drove in took great interest in my car and started asking all sorts of questions to which the other lads answered most of,so i left the car with them and went back home, got a phone call 2 hours later to say car had passed with no advisories and was ready for collection so off i went to pick it up.
Now when i got there the new lad asked if he could have a word and then asked if i would consider selling the cat,i must admit he caught me a bit by surprise and i started waffling on about how much i had done to it,he offered me more than i paid 2 1/2 years ago to which i said you could get a lower mileage black cat on ebay for 1400 from a main dealer but as he said that was for a bog standard one.I thanked him for his offer but in the end decided not to sell, even the wife called me daft but i just could not say yes i did not realise till i was put on the spot how much i still enjoy the car

There's a certain Frosty C2 for sale on here if he really wants a cat ;)

I normally buy cars for a hobby to fix and mod, usually old minis (had 6 in the past) and then sell on when there is nothing more to do,but for a reason i cannot explain i have become attached to this car-i still enjoy driving it as much as the day i bought it - at 72K it still has plenty of miles left and even the grandkids call it the batmobile so they must like it

Lol, some might say you should hve taken the money and run! Your car though is an exceptionally good example and is an absolute credit to you. Attachments come from many things and its weird how you can become emotionally attached to an inanimate object such as a car. They have brought us all to this place though and that's something quite special in itself :)

I agree. I've been in the same predicament myself years back with a Capri. I loved that car and i was made a daft offer on it, i refused to sell it right there on the spot. I kept it for another 2 years or so after that and after having it written off by a Mondeo , bought it back from the insurers and sold it eventually for £600.
Makes you think though. My feelings right at this minute are, offer me £3,000 for my car and i guarantee you'll walk away with that £3,000 and i'll still have my cat, but talk is so cheap

I dont regret my decision at all, where else could i have bought a 100% sorted car with lowish mileage for a couple of grand,I always think cars lose about a grand a year in depreciation so the car owes me nothing,i am happy with it and as i am getting older do i really want to start all over again-and if so i could always buy another classic mini to potter with

Never a foolish thought Mike, think you made the right decision. Although I only take mine out on rare occasions (usually for meets/shows or if it's a nice day), but still would never part with it. I'd have to be in dire need of capital to part with mine and even then I know I wouldn't get much for her. Great that he was interested, but as others have said there are plenty more 'modified' cougs in decent nick that he could make offers on.

Thread revival, took the car to be mot,d today, which it passed with flying colours. The mechanic that offered to buy mine last year was there and told me he has had two cars since last year and both cost more than he offered me a golf gti which the engine blew up and a masda rx 8 which the engine siezed and so (laughing) blamed me for costing him a fortune.
But he did say if ever i did decide to sell to let him know

The Coug does get under your skin no doubt about it, i did consider selling mine a couple of months ago and buying a diesel, because of the costs running the cat, but everytime i get in it, it makes me feel special driving it, and only one other car i've had did that a Honda S2000 which i had to sell a few years ago,

So i know whast you mean, hang on to Coug it could be worth something in a few years !! maybe :) what with all the ones being scrapped :(

Plus you can always spot it in a car park amoung all the "samey" euro boxes

Congrats on the pass Mike, but I never would've doubted it. (y)

As for the thread subject, no I don't think you are.

Well done on the pass Mike. (y)

Thanks, i asked the garage to pay particular attention to the underneath as so many cars on the forum have had problems this year - but he said everything was solid and there was no sign of the dreaded tin rot and as a bonus he offered me the use of his pit to apply a coating if i wanted to (y) which i thought was very decent of him

Very nice of him, also take him up on that even if you think it don't need it... i would do mine first thing i do next time.. it will be worth it's weight in gold and give you years of stress free cougaring..

Sounds like you made the right choice! I had a Parcelforce driver offer to buy an old car of mine. Hit me with it while I was signing for a parcel lol. Was actually a great feeling to be honest!
