Hi all,

I'm new and I see i'm the 2nd Andy today to say hello!
I've just picked up a mint conditions 66k V6 Cougar in black... first impressions are really good, the looks are amazing and the driving position/response is also really impressive. I do have a few Q's though....

- Firstly, the trader who sold it me had to put new pads on front and back and a new caliper on the rear (1 was seized). As a result the brake light is now on and he tells me this is because the heat from the seized caliper has affected it/triggered it. Does this sound viable? If so are they easy to replace, and at what kind of cost?

- Secondly, on the temperature control it states 'AC' on the digital display. This is only when the fan 'dial' is pointing to the windscreen....am I right in assuming the AC is only on when pointing at the screen?? I prefer to have AC off to maintain good performance/fuel usage (if it even makes a difference).

Thats it i think,

Andy

Welcome to the club Andy

Brake light is triggered by wear indicators, take the wheels off and have a good look at everything, car will fail mot with brake warning light on

Ac is on permanently when demist is selected, it is switchable on all other settings

Hope this helps

Good luck with it

Welcome to the club, nice colour choice too, takes a little work to keep clean but looks great when you do.(y)(y)(y)

thanks for the replies, I'll be spending most weekends polishing then :)

Are the wear indicators attached to the Brake Pad or Disc or neither? I'll have a good look at the weekend, concerns me that it's just passed the MOT with new Pads all round and the light is on...

is it the handbrake warning light? as this doubles up and could be due to low brake fluid.

Hello Andy, from another yet Andy, and welcome to the forum. Have the brake pads been replaced with ones without the sensors in them and the plugs left unattached in which case the system will think there is a fault.

Welcome to the asylum Andy! :)

BTW the trader is talking bo......., errrr rubbish about the brakes.
Sounds like pads without wear sensors have been fitted (overhead warning light). As long as they're not worn it's not an MOT fail.

Yes it sounds like he's used budget brake pads (no sensors) and yes it is the overhead warning light (i think in the middle).

Thanks for the welcome all
I;ll be registering shortly.

The wear sensors should be on both sides at the rear but only one side at the front; for the life of me I cant remember which side.

Well that's Andy innit!!! :)
