As per the title, I'm just wondering if we have any club members in the Abingdon area, as the Army is posting us there in September. I can't say I'm happy about the move, as we asked for - and were led to believe that we'd get - a posting in either the North East or North West (for those that don't know, Abingdon is roughly 10 miles South of Oxford), but there's nothing I can actually do about it. Every avenue of appeal and redress has been tried and failed, so it appears we're stuck with it.

The only tiny glimmer of positivity I can find in the whole situation is that next year I'll only have to leave home at 6am for Ford Fair instead of 5...!

I had a mate live there while he was in the RAF. Seemed a nice place to live, but loads of push bikes everywhere in Oxford though lol !!!
Oh and students everywhere....................

I worked in that area for a year, I actually quite liked it, not too far from London, but far enough out to be surrounded by lovely countryside, also easy access to either the north or south from there... (y)

I was posted there 11 years ago and really didn't like it. It's one of those places that's really nothing special, but all the people who live there seem to think they are - probably due to the proximity to Oxford. I always found the place to be infested with 'Hyacinth Bucket' syndrome and I'm not looking forward to going back there.

That's strange, I found people there to be quite welcoming, The pub near where we worked was very nice and the food excellent, The fishing is great, you have linch hill and shimano lakes near by, (If that's your thing?) I did meet a few like you have mentioned but in general they were quite nice.. I suppose different people and different experiences.. My mate hated working there and i never could understand why..? It may have changed this time for you Rich, but you won't know till you get back there chap.. I do hope it works out for you though.. (y)

I used to deliver in Abingdon and have to agree that most of the folk think they are something really quite special. There are the odd ones who are ok. I wouldn't live there out of choice.
