Aston Martin V12 Vantage

Yeah having seen a normal vantage in the flesh i'd agree the bonnet vents and thos wheels dont go (I thought it was just me but i didn't like th wheels at all) they work on the DB-S but not this, like DBS it looks better than Vanquish after all its just a bumped up Db-9....DB-9RS even

I'm gonna agree to disagree, as I quite like those alloys, much better than seeing the multi-spoke which they normally use on their Aston's :yesnod:

They need the vents and the removal of the undertray to keep the dam thing cool as much testing as it has had I reckon the margin must be minimal for overheating.

Yup I suspect the vents are a neccessity rather than Ian Callum's idea of "a good thing" from a styling point of view.

The alloys don't put me up nor down. I certainly wouldn't need to be asked twice if I was offered one, but if offered a choice I'd take the DBS keys. :smile5:

You see the new AUTO DB-S on fith Gear last week, Strangely enough it looked slightly different to the Silver one i've seen on Clarcksons new DVD and the Grey one in Casino Royale (this one was green) Tif Needel was impressed which is something (he didn't crash it ) apparently most supercar/GT buyers nowadays want an Auto, lazy beggers ;)

These GTs are so powerful nowadays that the Autos are easily as fast as a manual, and for normal 'quick' driving probably faster.

When you're looking at hitting 60 in under 5 seconds then a human will spend far too much time pumping clutch pedals and stirring gearsticks around - meanwhile a modern Auto such as the ZF gearbox is changing gears in the blink of an eye - and nowadays they're fitted with accelerometers so they don't up or downshift during hard cornering etc.

The driver can steer so much more precisely with both hands on the wheel too :)

And the Jaguar R-spec programming of the ZF gearbox will change down automatically if it senses moderate to hard braking, ready for power delivery on the way out again.

Aston Martin will certainly have something similar.

Two years ago Nissan produced the first auto to deliver better fuel economy on the offical combined cycle than it's manual counterpart on the same test.

Very soon people are going to have to accept that automatics are technically and dynamically superior to manuals. I fully agree that old fashioned autos were crap, and the 4-speed in the Cougar is nothing to shout about, but modern autoboxes really have moved on a long way.

Soon the only reason to buy a manual will be one based on emotion, rather than rational reasons.

Well it was revealed on the show that the Aston's Auto DB-S was more economical than the Manual so yeah your right, and the gear changes were in fractions of a second. Drive is selected via a button on the dash with flapy padles for upshifting/downshifting (or just leave it in fully Auto-mode) also has a sport setting, and performed well on the hill start manouver
