Best Breakdown Cover??

As do I - that's why I was wondering. A simple 'upgrade' of current account might be all that's needed. I get mobile phone insurance and sentinel card protection through mine too.

Former building society now owned by Spaniards!

I assume you're referring to Lloyds? How does it work and what level of cover do you get etc?

I pay £54 approx to ADRIAN FLUX insurance for their FLUX RESCUE (think its run by equity red star) it covers about the same as what Steve has just listed, went for them as the AA wanted double that price even though i'd been with them about 10 years or so, that was about 5 years back

Spot on. There are a number of account options which cost a few quid a month. I think you need a minimum amount deposited each month for each account type.

I've got a platinum account I think? Not sure but I've got full homestart / recover you wherever you want to go with the AA plus the other stuff mentioned above. IIRC when I had the Cougar I was on a lower account and it only took me to the nearest garage.

Depends on your circumstances, and whether you'd actually use the other perks like the travel insurance and mobile phone stuff. YOu get discounts on white goods etc too but I've never actually bothered to look at that. I'm not sure I'd switch banks for the sake of a perk to be honest, but had you already been with them it could have been a very easy/cheap fix.

Mel's had a look at the Lloyds option, seems to be £17 per month

Need to weigh up what's included for the price but initial thoughts are to go with the £30 quote above!

right I was posting from the phone last night so now I'm 'at work' and using a proper device I've had a look at Lloyds' website

To upgrade the account to add AA cover is...

Silver Account - £9.95 per month

  • AXA European and UK Travel Insurance
  • AA breakdown cover
  • Mobile phone insurance
  • Sentinel® card protection

Platinum account - £17 per month which gets you all of the above plus improved travel insurance 'with either family or winter sports cover'

so not really cost-effective just to get some breakdown cover, but thanks anyway guys a valid point if she'd already had that account!

We use RAC. For the cover we get; 2 people covered for any car we might be in for roadside, relay, onward travel etc £150 a year is a pretty good deal. What you're suggesting sounds pretty good Steve, until you need them. £40 excess? That could get nasty pretty quickly.

Jim I've been looking further into the rescuemycar outfit and in all honesty I'm starting to look elsewhere, £40 excess plus max of six callouts per year (is this standard?) are putting me off, as are some of their reviews

£150 for two people in any car sounds interesting

AA also do two people/any car/national recovery/onward travel (no home start) for £150 so I guess this is the ball park....

Was just on Green Flag's site who are currently offering two for one on personal cover, only to discover this little nugget:

Personal Cover is only available for vehicles under 16 years old that are both privately registered and being used in the UK.

Big Cat being 15 and Baby Cat being 16 rules this one out!

any more for any more!?!?

Steve, i'm pretty sure there are a maximum amount of call outs allowed with all these companies, as my father found out a few years ago with the RAC, i personally won't ever go with the AA again after they refused to act on a badly repaired car i had once,

I think green flag might be worth a look

Cheers Jel but as per my above post Green Flag's personal cover excludes vehicles over 16yrs old, our Puma is a 98 registered car and the Cougar will be 16 next year so kinda rules them out!

I was looking at LV, multi person cover with national recovery comes in at £105 and the only thing of note in the Ts & Cs is...

Vehicles must be in a roadworthy condition and should be serviced and maintained in
line with manufacturer guidelines and meet all legal regulations, including, if appropriate,
having an MOT certificate. It is your responsibility to ensure that all vehicles are kept in
this condition throughout the period of cover and we may ask for proof in the event of
a dispute

Anyone been with these guys? does this mean you need to keep the book stamped!

Andy - Thanks but we don't do Clubcard/Nectar etc

Bit of a grey area I would imagine Steve, but why not ask them if receipts for oil, filters etc would suffice? I've got an OEM service schedule booklet you're welcome to if needed.

Just a thought Steve but can you not add recovery/home start etc as an option onto your insurance, i can with mine for about £45.00 i think it is
