Blue's cool..........but White's alright.............

Looking good Al; have you got more than one LED for the headlamp switch backing plate or just one to replace the OEM bulb?

Hi Andy.
I used a single 4led wedge type which is a direct replacement for the original 3w bulb http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130680216634?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I also tried a 9led but it was far too bright. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120898199273?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

For the knob illumination i used a BA7S led, again a direct replacement for the original. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380404397012?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

NOTE: The illuminated knob is only on the mondeo H/L switch and iirc i had to fit a missing pin into the multi plug as the cougar has no circuit for that light.

thanks Al; I've already done the Mk1 Mondy switch swap and used a led in there because the original bulbs don't last very long. With the green insert in the Mondy knob the white led gives a bluish light which I was hoping to match behind the emblems in the back plate.

Hmm, all this talk of knobs...

Something I note with mine, my original V6 switch was illuminated, however since my indicator conversion I fitted a zetec switch and this does not illuminate, I assumed this was typical Ford penny pinching but the above comments suggest somebody went to the trouble of fitting
a mondy switch at some point?

Have now got C2 switchgear to fit which I think I recall reading these don't illuminate?

This can be got round fairly easily mate. When I upgraded to C2 switchgear, I dismantled both the C1 and C2 headlight switches and simply mated the C1 (illuminating) knob onto the C2 switch and vice versa.

I did wonder if that was possible so thanks for confirming it is!

So here's a question then....I have

A spare C1 V6 knob I know illuminates
A C1 zetec knob in the car now that doesn't
A C2 zetec knob that will be going in the car

Presumably I can strip down the V6 switch,, fit the bulb into the C2 zetec switch, and fit the C1 zetec knob on top?

My knob has the white inserts :giggle:o_O:eek:. ~I'll keep taking the tablets .
The tint effect is probably something to do with the led into the green plastic.

For the sake of a couple of quid and a bit less dismantling I'm going to try a green BA7S behind the Cougar knob which doesn't have the green insert.

As I'm sure you probably already know, the difference between the V6 and Zetec switches is the extra position on the V6 for the front fogs. Although the C1 V6 knob you have will have the icon for the front fogs, I can't remember whether the physical 'switching' capability (ie the double pull out) for the front fogs is a part of the switch or the knob.

Worst case scenario, I suppose, is that you'll have an icon for the front fogs but be unable to operate them. As you're currently using a Zetec switch though, I'm guessing this wouldn't be a show stopper.

Thanks guys, so you're saying the only knob (that I have anyway) that lets light through is the V6 double fog one

@Alan - sorry for the mini-hijack...

Gotcha. Thanks Al. It's looking cool in the car now the bits have been swapped over, just the window switches left to do now ;)

Al, is it possible to convert a C2 HVAC and Headlight switch surround to blue LED? :)

Only by doing the same C1 mod John. Until somebody else can come up with some way of changing the symbols colour without having to cut it out and overlay vinyl layers.

Forgive my being a little slow on the uptake here Al, but I don't follow. Are you saying that changing the colour of the illumination can only be done on C1 parts, not C2?
