Hello, I was wondering if someone could direct me to somewhere I can find cheap/reasonably priced brake pads and discs for my Cougar?

I'm afraid I am not very car-part savvy, but love my Cougar so am trying to buy parts directly rather than through a garage, which means I will have more money left over to pimp-up my ride!

Thanks!
Samuel

ECP have destroyed a lot of small independent motor factors, but they are very good value generally.

I've used buypartsby.co.uk many times too.

Or you could try your local independent motor factor?

Thanks for all your helpful replies.

I wasn't intending to fit them myself as I wouldn't know where to start and do not always trust Youtube videos!

Procomm, thank you for your kind offer to help fit them, but unfortunetly I am in South Warwickshire, in Shipston-on-Stour, so it would take you about 40 mins to get here.

One question that I should have asked at the beginning is do I need new brake discs and pads. I assume I did due to the excessive juddering I get when pressing the brake pedal and was told by a friend that the brakes were warped. Does this sound correct?

Many thanks.

Quite possibly, though you're right to ask since that's not the only reason for judder.

Jack the car up one corner at a time, secure it with an axle stand, and wiggle the wheels in all directions. There should be no play or knocking. Pay particular attention to the front lower wishbones, because the rubber in these will deteriorate over time resulting in movement.

Next, spin the wheels and check for a "shooshing" noise that fades in and out. This will be the pads coming into (and out of) contact with the disk, which is clearly warpage.

One last possiblity that I'll throw in because you haven't characterised the judder; if the pedal is pulsing back at you rapidly, it's probaby the ABS kicking in. Take off the wheels and clean and inspect the ABS reluctor ring (on the hub, behind the brake disk) and make sure it has no gunk in it and isn't cracked.

Hope this helps!

Shame you don't live round the corner from me Procomm.

Hang on. You're just down the road I think. Happy days :)

Or maybe not. Redditch is miles away. There's a Procomm in Leeming according to the reg listings. Never mind.

That was me, I was stationed at RAF Leeming for a couple of years whilst serving on Tactical Comms Wing, I do miss those days

Discs and pads changed, full diagnostic done 509 sensors, all for my favorite kind of 6 pack  Preliminary result, no more judder, will wait for an update from Sam. For the record a nice bloke not afraid to get his hands dirty (y) Got a hole in his sill about size of a 50p piece, can anyone recommend a welder in the Cotswold/gloustershire area
