Haha hello all. This looks like a friendly place to get stuff done!

Right, i have my cat now, and the fuel gauge does not work. But the yellow light stays on all the time no matter what. Filled up the tank too. and i tapped the clear plastic window where the gauge is LOADS. it didn't work.

That is my main problem to concentrate on for now thank you.

Well, also, while my bloke was welding the cill for the MOT appaerntly he went through/got near some wiring? so my seat, electric mirrors and windows just decide when they want to work now. but I believe the fuel gauge was broken before this.

many thanks in advance for any help

Hello and welcome aboard. As Dick stated, your welder chap really ought to get your wiring sorted for you, as he shouldn't have gone through it in the first place. As for your fuel issue, think as above ^^^ Think you may need to replace the sender unit.

I'm trying to picture it in my head, but it's been a while since I've torn one down to the shell.

But I seem to remember that all the body wiring - including the SRS wiring for the side impact sensors and the the seat airbags (!) - runs from two massive multiplugs located a few inches up from the floor in the driver's A-pillar.

Was it the offside front outer/inner sill that you had welded?

Hi all thanks for nice welcome. So yes gonna try and get welder guy to help fix it. And Mako i think it was both Sills i had done but im afraid my dad picked the car up for me and got the mot work done while i was at work so never saw the original issues/fixes first hand.

Please find out. An observation if you don't mind:

You've paid to have it welded and keep the old girl alive, and that's great. And we'll assume that your welder is as good as the legendary Gavin Hay or the super-human Dave Chant (notwithstanding the fact your welder seems to have melted your wiring...) and your car is now solid as a rock. But what I'm missing from your posts is whether you've got under there and looked.

Did you pay the welder to seal up his work? Because if not, the plate he put in will need painting, and you'll then need to underseal it. Because otherwise you've got about six months before you're in the same boat.
