Bringing the new C2 up to standard... *PICTURE HEAVY*

Even more good work. Heading to be the smatest cat in town eh ;).
re the old pollen filter: are you sure it's not just a black one? as it looks very clean to me. They are usually bunged up with bits of road dirt, old leaf remnants etc, and yes, the second relay is the one you need for the seats, it's identical to the one beside it, probably pick one up at a breakers from a mondy if a cougar is unavailable.

There were tons of leaves and dirt in there but a lot fell into the scuttle area when I removed the filter. There's a picture higher up the thread showing some of the remains that stayed in the filter.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts about the relay.

Whilst dismantling more of the interior today to clean as well as access blown bulbs, I noticed that as well as the two connections to the cigarette lighter, these two happened to be hanging around "spare" in the same area. They look like head unit plugs to me???

On the subject of cigarette lighters... the lighter itself is illuminated at night (one of the few bulbs that hasn't blown!) but what about the ashtray? The green plastic bit on the r/h side would seem to allow for light transmission, but from where?

Also with the seats out there's an awful lot more room... having removed the rear seats I discovered all of 2p and a few leaves, dog hairs etc.

Easy clean out there compared to the forest of leaves found under the driver's seat. And the view from the back is impressive too:

Lighter and ashtray share the same bulb Mark. Check the lighter bulb holder, it has a window in it, this window should be facing the green plastic ashtray window. The spare plugs do look like HU connectors.

The white one definitely looks like a connection for the radio, the black one isn't though, not sure what it's for.

Maybe a previous owner has been running a two HU setup - the white one is definitely a HU connector and the other one may well be a speed pulse feed for a satnav head unit

So far as I'm aware the previous owner (since 2003) had kept everything pretty much standard although having taken the Ford 6000 (silver) unit out as part of my drive to replace interior panel bulbs, it has a stamp of APR 06 on its label. Perhaps this isn't a date though?

My C2 has the same plugs, must just be a generic fit, there was an optional SAT-Nav unit available so perhaps as Everton has sugested they would have been connected to this, the plugs for the head unit itself are different colours IIRC. The black one isn't connected to anything in an AUTO by chance?

Was the VNR 9000 actually an option for the Cougar? I believe it would fit as a 1.5 DIN unit however the map updates ceased in 2003 so probably not a practical idea.

Silver 6000 HUs were fitted to Pumas so not a standard fit in Cougars.

That's interesting (not knowing anything about Pumas) - will go through invoices and see if anything mentions a HU change. Radio bit works fine, haven't had a CD in it yet.

at that time, pretty much anything that would fit a Mondeo could be fitted to the Cougar....it was towards the end of the days when dealers were happy to help all of the time!

Now the refit can begin after the long-standing saga of "Where Are My Seats?" - tiff is all too aware of this and the exasperation this has caused. Centre console cleaned and back in (the pen tray had encrusted dirt/debris - how?! ):

The leather had a serious clean and condition courtesy of Gliptone products - shameless plug as it is very, very good:

In between that I replaced blown bulbs in the instrument lights (the HVAC did just have iffy contacts Alan, bulb was fine), earthed the dimmer switch and replaced all the window switches so they light up now - thanks again to tiff for those. Did have to switch resistor and LED from one to another as one replacement switch only put the window down...

And in shameless plagiarism from Peter Froud I fitted chrome trim to the door cards. Awaiting another lot of 8mm from sunny Bulgaria to finish the rears.

More to come...

Looks great - those door cards look incredibly shiney! Is that the finished result or were they wet in the pictures?

This is the finished item - when it stops chucking it down I'll go out to the workshop and check what I used. Was sprayed, left for about a minute then buffed off with clean, cotton cloth. The shine will dull a bit over time so it's not quite so "in-yer-face" bling... :D

Looking good mate, you wouldn't get the same effect on a C1 ;) I have some leather wipes that give the same gloss effect too, I do beleive the C2 seats buff up a bit better than the C1 ones though.....
