I am being drawn towards the 00-03 Haynes Mondeo manual.

Someone did suggest this previously.

You need the one before that; '93-00.
The Cougar shares it's underpinnings with the Mk2 Mondeo, not the Mk3.


Failing that why not take out a full membership to the forum where there is so much more Cougar specific information.

...but the C2 type V6 engine is the same as the mk3 mondeo v6 so it may come in handy.

"Sensor 2" - is this not the one underneath the car with the main cat?

Yes that is correct for code p0136 bank 1 being the rear

oh and it is a pain in the backside to remove with the exhaust fitted

Job for a garage?
The guy I bought the car off 3 weeks ago gave me the quote issued from the garage at £98.00.
Local Halfords service centre.

They were the ones who did the diagnostic check.

If you have a trolley jack and an axel stand, raise up the drivers front remove wheel and run the engine up to operating temp, then get a 18mm spanner and undo the sensor, then turn off the engine and disconnect the electrical plug. Let the exhaust cool down then finish unscrewing the thread should take an hour in total :thumbs up:

try cleaning the electrical connector and cleaning the sensor with carb cleaner before buying a new one, it might just be so coked up it is giving a false reading

Lambda is 22mm not 18 (sorry Paul)
Grab a proper lambda socket from eBay to make the job easier

Nah, mk3 mondeo is completely different to the Cougar in that regard.

You can't get a socket on the rear bank lambda...I've used a cut down ring spanner when I've done them
