My Greenie passed the MOT this morning :):)
Four advisory's this year, one of which was sorted straight away.....

Both rear shock absorbers have light misting...... (knew about these)
Slight engine oil leak .......(knew about this too)
Centre rear exhaust rubber perished.........Now this is the one that's totally thrown me to be honest. I had the Powerflow system fitted on the 7th of September 2009 so this is the third MOT since then. So i asked the examiner why it hadn't been picked up before as he'd done both previous MOT's. He reckoned it was there both time's but as it had (get this) A PLASTIC TIE round it and wasn't perrished enough to fail the test he let it go. A PLASTIC TIE FOR CHRIST SAKE !! . Now i'm inclined to believe him as i know he remembers the car each year because he alway's comments on how nice it looks and this year was no different.
So that means it's been on there since the system was built at the Powerflow place in Southampton. I paid £598 for a stainless system that's been held up by a plastic tie  What made it worse is when he looked at it closely because he needed to see what type it was as i'd asked him to put a new one on for me, turns out it's a bloody Austin Allegro rubber :cautious: . A poxy Austin part on my lovelly Cougar :LOL: Anyway he stuck a Mondeo one on and all's good now.
I must admit i'm not happy at all with the Powerflow fitters and i so want to go back to them and raise hell about it but as i forgot to go back to them to get my lifetime guarantee stamped last year i just know they'll laugh in my face. Only cost me a fiver for the new one anyway i suppose.
Just goes to prove that no matter how much you pay there's no guarantee what you're getting is quality. Don't get me wrong the exhaust itself is great because i had it checked while it was on the ramps today. I just can't believe it to be honest :cautious:

Anyway, at least she passed (y)

Well done Nick, that's a nice birthday present. Regarding the rubber, the guarantee wouldn't cover it. They all perish eventually so classed as a consumable item like bushes etc.

Cheers Manos. Yeah that's right but i'm more peeved about the plastic tie to be honest. And as for it being a Austin rubber......well

In fairness, there are many many more cars that would use that rubber. In the exhaust world, they ovals, squares, blocks, flex blocks, 2 hole, 4 hole etc.

Sounds like you had an oval one on, when the fitted and tested the exhaust for blows etc if there was too much movement in it or it banged then the purpose of the tie is to take the sla k out of the rubber.

It's a very common practice. Well done on the MOT though! Always good when they pass first time.
