just a quick question , is the centre console in a cougar the same as a mondeo ?

From under the ashtray, back and under the handbrake, yes.

The ashtray and ciggy lighter assembly are slightly different. The mondeo ashtray overlaps the ciggy lighter but the complete assembly insert can be changed with care.

Interesting, looks like the mk2 one has the same ashtray and ciggie lighter as the cougar, only the mk1 has the (better looking imo) full width ashtray

The gunmetal grey panel under the handbrake was unique to the C1 AFAIK. Mondeo ones came in different colours depending on the upolstry colour.

I meant the colour of the 'outside' I was incorrectly assuming that spindle already had a console ready to go

So was I when referring to the Mondeo matched upolstry versions. Outside panels varied from blue, black and several shades of grey.
