Drove my recent purchase in the dark for the first time tonight and annoyingly the lcd odometer screen isn't illuminated....is this a bulb thing or something more serious? If it is a bulb how much of a drama is it to get the instrument cluster out?

It's just a bulb mate, fretteth ye not. :) It is a bit of a faff pulling the dash apart to change it (hence why I've procrastinated my way round sorting one of mine that's gone) but it's fairly straightforward once you've done it a couple of times. I'd hazard a guess there'll be a how-to for it but, failing that, I'll do one with step by step photos when I get my rear in gear - most likely at Scotfest.

Cheers for the reply....I dissapoint myself by getting fixated on trivial stuff like this but I know I will not rest until it's done!....although just the thought of doing it is making me sigh!!

It needs to be illuminated for the new MOT regs so you'll have to fix it at some point I'm afraid!

The little LCD screen has to be illuminated to pass an MOT? Seriously?

Section 6.7 - Speedometer

Method of Inspection

1. Check that a speedometer is fitted.

2. Check the condition of the speedometer.

3. Check that the speedometer can be illuminated.

Reason for Rejection

1. Speedometer not fitted.

2. Speedometer incomplete, clearly inoperative or the dial glass broken or missing.

3. The speedometer cannot be illuminated.

I can't find any reference to the odometer, only the speedometer. Are you telling us this is changing?

Yeah that is a bit far sadly! I had a quick Google and it looks like radio out, the row of buttons above out, upper and lower dash panels to right of steering wheel, binnacle cover then cluster out?!?
