Cougar (sold at auction) last month!

Right,i want to make something clear maybe i wrote my last post wrong...... i do not hate Fords at all,in fact i loved my Escort Cosworth,my dissapointment was with the Ford company who refused to put decent security on their cars which forced me to sell a car that i saved and saved for & truly loved & looked after because the insurance premiums went to a crazy price.
When i said about how tech & fuel have come on leaps & bounds i used the Cougar as a reference as its an older car, however you can compare 2 of the same German brands too as a 2004 BMW 550I struggles to reach 31 mph compared to a 2014 more powerful same model doing 45 mpg.
The Cougar is more or less rust free as my brother always kept it in his garage & in the recent years due to his health it never really ventured out,its ironic really as now i have it the car it just sits in my garage too at the moment. When i drove it the 90 miles back to my house i was impressed how straight and true it drove, the auto box changed smoothly and even the air con was cold & the cruise control worked too.So theres a testament as to how good the Cougar is that it layed dormant most of the time but when asked it performed without fault ( alright the brakes were a bit soft ). I got the local garage to give it a service & mot which as i said passed & only an advisorie for a nail in the rear tyre which i have now replaced. Also, has anyone ever seen a 2 door car with a boot as big as the Cougars,i was really surprised at its size.
Hopefully i have cleared that up as i meant no offence to any members at all.............................. Cheers
no offence at all mate...clearly your anger is at the insurance companys for killing the cosworth not ford and i feel the same way..ford were mental not fitting them with better locks! mine u could get into the boot with mole grips and a gentle twist of the rear barrel lock! hence why i deleted it from the hatch..
could have read into it wrong when u said about audi's and beemers being better at fuel, i didnt mean any offence to u either...
sounds like your cougs a good un, if u keep it in good condition im sure the value will go up..it certainly has since my first cougar whiich i got 2013 for £480 ,the auto i got 2020 cost £1200..
there a great reliable car just need to keep the tin worm away (y)

the thing is a cougar is a long living car...most cougs that are untouched and general use at 22+ years are only now getting issues with structural mot failure rust....which is frankly an amazing life span.

the coug WILL get its chance at the classic scene... it may take another 5 or so years but it'll happen.

those of us who have futureproofed our cars with rustproofing and renewing of wear parts and those who have garaged theres through the damp days WILL eventually see a high price tag and classic status...assuming thats what u want...frankly i dont care if its worth 30k or 50quid its my work of art and i will have it till i cant drive anymore or die (or some idiot in a lorry smashes it :ROFLMAO:

i personally dont think it matters weather it gets ford classic magazine coverage or not, its was never meant to be a cossie or an equal to a hot hatch and its not old enough to compete or look like a rebuilt sierra ,escort or cortina and imo its daft to even compare them... the cougs time will come same as the mk1/2 mondys are now starting to be seen at shows, just not yet.
i think because it wasnt built at dag or cologne they dont even see em as a tru ford... i see em as a mercury that ventured over the pond:D

as archidog said ford killed the cossie with naff security and in just a few years the car disappeared quite quickly due to this(yes i had one too)
and my god what a beast they were... thats why when a good one pops up every mag wants to cover it....
sorry tho...comparing the coug for fuel economy to an audi or beemer 13 years younger and designed by german scientist that were probably related to Einstein is frankly daft ,yes car tech has advanced to use less fuel but compare the coug to a car of the same era and type and the economy isnt so bad..

if u hate ford that much put a mercury badge on it:ROFLMAO: as thats what they were originally ,but if your going to compare it to a powerfull economical and greener german car pls sell it to someone who will enjoy it for its looks and certainly dont think of it as an investment..

if u love the drive and look of em and can afford the time(and money) they need to keep em good then they are the car for u..
if u see em as a way to earn money as the value goes up or would rather drive a german modern quicky car and leave it in the elements to rot pls sell it to someone who likes them for what they are....no offence intended here but if u hate fords why are u keeping it... your never going to like it...
and if it passed an honest mot with one advisory it must be quite good!

i actually had someone on the A1 at the black cat roundabout whilst the light was red wind his window down and ask me what car is that and say what stunning nick it was....thats all i need..
the coug is a stunning looking car...i don't need a modern SUV thanks(y)

finished my long speech about why u should/shouldn't have a cougar you can all wake up now:ROFLMAO:
Well said and commented on. One of mine is a daily user and as long as you keep servicing and part replacement up they can be a a very practical car with up to 40 mpg achieved from a manual V6 and a very copious boot which is useful to my collecting habit.

I once bought some Renault 25 parts from a guy in Shropshire who had a fully restored Consul Capri rolling shell, and a rusty but mechanically sound Granada V6 4x4. He did suggest he was going to put the two together, what a car that would have made.

If he could reduce the track on the Granny. I suspect it’s a good bit wider than the Consul.

R25, always liked ‘em. Never got closer than a 21.
