Cougar v6 belt shredded!!

My belt shredded as well about 6 months ago & the motor got hot - I was advised to change the oil. These V6's prefer it fresh & clean. It seems OK so far.

i had a similiar problem a few months back, belt went as tensioner was knacked, engine temp level went to red,i ended up getting a belt and tensioner from a local breaker as ford couldnt get me one till the monday(this was fridand i was 90 miles from home) and my engine survived, (y)

Yay water pump and belt turned up this afternoon and after sitting outside in the snow fitting it, it's all done and all ok :)

Yeah I got the filter and oil right here so that's next on the list, also plugs but that looks tricky

The hardest part of doing the plugs are the rear bank, and it is getting the leads off which is the hard part, the changing of the plugs is no problem.

BTW the later plastic pumps (white ones) very rarely fail. The main problem is the metal disc falling apart and eating through the housing....

I think you'll find that the plastic ones used to disintegrate and many people replaced the pumps containing plastic impellors with the metal one for longevity. That was the story about 7 years ago anyway.
