Well guys i might be selling the Cat in the new year, and was wondering what people think it might be worth either as it is modded or put back to standard.

Its a 2.0 zetec with full service history, currently on around 54,000, new cam belt in Dec 2012, air con service, oil and filter, body work is pretty good except for a bit of a dink on the trailing edge of the drivers door, it also has a full size spare and the space saver is available if required, leccy sunflap.
MOT till March 2015, and i'm only the third owner in 15 years.

mods & upgrades are:

front and rear strut braces
FC throttle body and custom intake pipe + K&N panel filter
Apex front lowering springs (rears available)
Recent new front & rear drop links
all the fittings to fit a heated screen (never got round to it :oops:)
decent tyres Hankook 225-50-16 with loads of tread
Mondeo + ST170 front disc/caliper conversion
new rear discs and pads end of 2012
new catalyst in 2013
Recent new Ford lower front arms
Recent new plugs, leads and a new coil pack in 2012
"Cougar" sill plates
"Cougar" Mats
US Style front grill & boot emblem
V6 Spot lights for all their worth :LOL:
tonnes and tonnes of history and old MOT's, loads of bills for the work mentioned above

I expect i've forgotten something, and i'm not entirly sure i want to part with her, but i have a hankering for something open topped for next summer.

so i was wondering what i could ask for the old girl which probably stands me at almost £3k as she is now, i have a figure in mind, so it'll be interesting what other think she might fetch :)

I'm not sure if it would make much difference putting it back to standard - most people who seem to buy these at the moment do some sort of modifying so selling one with useful mods, carried out well, would perhaps fetch the most?
 
Totally agree - sell the mods, then sell the car will equal more cash.

Joe Public wouldn't pay more by virtue of the fact its been modified, apart from a very niche market who may.

As it sits - £600-800
 
Modified cars are worth more in bits, put it back to standard and sell the bits you'll make more that way (y)
 
Taking off the blinkers that make owners think there car holds a certain value, its a 15 year old car that isn't well known, there are a lot of them for sale and most sell for around £400 - £600 if you can put it back to standard and then sell the modification parts on here I should think you should comfortably end up with a combined £1,000 - £1500 (y)
 
Definitely standard. I personally have consciously looked for standard cars every time I've bought one, as modified cars always ring the 'has it been ragged?' alarm bell in a buyer's head. All things being equal, you'd probably get more for a standard car than a modded one, and you'd certainly be more likely to sell it as it would appeal to a broader market. As has already been said, you could sell the mods separately and make more cash on top.

As much as i know my own car, i would not buy a heavily modified one. I need to see the body work. Do as suggested above, strip exterior mods especially and sell the car as near standard as possible.

Thank you all for your input, its not a deffinate as yet, and tbh, if all shes worth is £600-800 as Si suggests, i'll probably hang on to her a bit longer, as i had a slightly higher figure in mind, round about £1200 considering the low mileage and general condition, maybe i'm a little biased :oops:

Having looked on ebay some on there have quite high mileage and are probably pretty rusty, where as mine has no tin worn and certainly not in the sills or wings as far as i can see o_O
 
There is a big difference between what people are asking for a car and what cars are selling for, if you don't need to sell it straight away then I would suggest hanging on till May before you sell it but I honestly don't think you will get close to the figure you had in mind, I think you may even struggle with the top end of scunny' estimate but I hope you get a good price (y)
 
Hang onto it....as one day it will become a classic...and we all know how much classic cars fetch! lol!!!!
 
A fair proportion of anybody interested in Cougar specific bits are the denizens of this forum, so if anybody knows the level of interest it'll be this lost.

Unless these are in original and very tidy condition it'll be a while before they appreciate, so I'd get breaking.
 
Speaking from recent selling experiences, I would agree with Scunny's figures,:( ...... probably not what you want to hear, but that has been my experience in selling a modded cougar and a completely standard ebony, both being the C2 models also.

Well i was hoping it might one day, when it was my only car, not sure i can wait another 20 years for it to get collectable matey, if i had somewhere to dry store maybe it might be possible, but it sits outside in all the weather,

It is very tidy as anyone who's seem it will tell you, don't know how much more tidy a genuine 54k and FSH could be really and its too nice to break, and i wouldn't do that unless it was heap, which it isn't, problem i have is i got the Prelude as a "cheap" winter hack, and it so much more fun to drive and it fits me better I've found that i've only used the Cat 4 or 5 times since i got the Honda.. :( and its going to waste a little i feel, perhaps i'll just hang on for a bit longer, tax runs out end of this month so i'll SORN it and see where to go from there perhaps

Seems a bit sad doesn't it, such a nice car going to waste, but i'm not really using it now I find the Prelude is more comfortable on my iffy back, its more economical (oddly) and i just enjoy driving it more, don't get me wrong i still love the Cougar, but the Honda just suits me better, probably not what i should be writing on a Cougar forum i know :giggle: :(
