CougarFest 2011 chat/questions thread

I can only re-iterate what i've said before, and that is that in all my days, some of the best parties i've attended have been the ones where half the guests don't bother to turn up :)
No disrespect to any that don't/didn't, but we had/will have a damn good time, it was/is only your loss not mine/ours.:beer::beer::)

Excellent/Superb post Al/Alan/Pid_16v!! Very/Extremely well put/said. Should/Hopefully send the right/correct message to the masses/members/public

Well we were in that position last year and we all asked for it to have a reprieve, it got one and only the usual crowd committed.

No offence to those who are making the effort, I salute you all because money is tight for everybody including us, but some people talk a good line in bull ****. This is probably the death of Cougarfest as we know it, 20ish cougars from the national club, the RS clubs probably get more than that for an area meet, the XR owners club probably do too even though the cars have been out of production for many years.

Happens with most of the events to be fair Rich, Cougar owners just dont seem to want to go to shows, look at the likes of ford fair and trax, only a handful of cougars and even the Ford Fiesta owners get more members turn up in popular plus 1.1L cars.

Just how it goes! For some reason, Puma Limo drivers think they're above the others and couldn't possibly take part in muggle activities such as camping etc

Ginja has been in court for it but it couldn't be proven

Only if Ginja ducks it!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Sounds like I'll have to keep an eye out for Ginja, did someone mention he might have a c2? :D :D

To be honest I've spent a bit more time looking at the pics etc and without wanting to cause offence it looks like a p*** up in a field. I'd have loved it a few years back but not sure it would be a good family outing with the kids etc. I might be way off the mark but it's just the impression I get from the photos - it does look a good laugh though :D

It's what you make it! A weekend off, a chance to let loose, if you're not driving anywhere the sod it and have a beer at 10am! It is what it is, and you'll only ever know by going and finding out!!

cougar : **** up in a field, no where near, there is a few kids about, there is a few caravans about, but more importantly there is a few cats about with people that are considered good mates about , there is always a few couples, always a few kids (as crash test dummies) and the rest of us, thats the thing about cougarfest, its not about the car only, but the people that turn up..........if you are can make it then do as this is probably one of the3 last years in its current format. (y)

Personally i think this is a popular misconception of fest. Yes we drink, some more than others, i will have a couple of cans at night and thats about it as i can't drink anymore like i used to  others will have a sociable drink only, we eat, we mess with cars, we chat and for most part it's a camping weekend with a lot of cars parked around. Hopefully during the day, the toys come out and Kully goes playing Silversurfer  along with RichB and co.
I know that if my beloved Lisa was here, she would love it and i would have had no qualms at all bringing her and probably her pals to cougarfest. As already said, it really is what you make of it but i have never yet heard anybody say they didn't enjoy it, and the company is great, you won't be left out, or made to feel like you have to join in. I spent a lot of the time last year sitting and watching the antics going on while eating a burger and drinking a cuppa, like the old fart that i am, and that was my 4th fest

No, no, it's due to the fact that is when the camera's come out to capture some of the antic's and fun that goes on. I'm not a drinker (although I did have a couple of whisky's here and there lol) but there were kids, wives, girlfriends, dogs, caravans, tents, bbq's etc. There was a water slide (kids loved that!) and the optional airbed tied to TC's Coug flying around the field. It's just a great weekend to chill out, meet new people and have a damned good laugh!!! We did some Coug repairs, added stickers to some people's cars and generally helped anyone who needed the odd small job doing to their car.

Mate, honestly, last year was my first ever Fest, didn't really know anyone properly, but made some great friends and thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend. You won't know what your missing until you have been to one!

If you look carefully at the photos you will see that our club mascot/crash test dummy - minimofo (aged 13 at the time) features heavily in most of the activities. He had a brillant time and it was his airbed that was in use for the car tow and water slide.

Although he has grown up a bit now (and been rechristened Maximo ) he enjoyed it so much he has persuaded me to bring two of his mates with him this year.

I don't drink at all (and neither does at least one other attendee who attened with 'the short one', his young son) and I am very aware of people who have had too much to drink and I was actually very surprised at how little most people drank over the course of the weekend. You don't need booze with the amount of fun generated at 'fest and it is, IMHO, top quality, fantastic value family fun - after all - ukcougar.com is really just one big happy family (well - most of the time anyway!).

That's good to hear, by kids I should really have put young children, my daughter is currently 3 my second isn't born yet.

Just giving my view - I've not really looked at it much before but that was my first impression - if it is going to continue in the future maybe it needs more of an introduction and some photos of some of the other activities? As I say on my own or with my wife I'd really enjoy it, but with young children and needing to keep an eye etc I'd probably be a bit boring - not much drink, off to bed early to keep an eye on kids etc.

This year isn't a good time anyway - wife pregnant, working friday and early on Monday, and already got something booked for the Saturday but I would like to meet some of you people at some point - always nice to know who you're speaking to. :D

Bit annoyed that the Eccleshall Show is on a day that I can't make - as that is just up the road and would have been ideal

My Mrs was pregnant at last years fest and we will be there with our baby who will be 4 and a half months. We have just bought a baby monitor with rechargeable parent unit and a baby unit that can run on mains or batteries in case of a power outage. Baby issue solved ;)

I'll try and pose for some family shots this year lol. Although have a look at the Tatton pics. That was a weekend camping with kids and my little one was only just 12 weeks there. :)

There is some drinking, let's not pretend it's the church fate now, but it's not the debauchery and carnage that you see in the town centre at the weekend, some high spirits, loads of laughter and no trouble to date. There aren't any activities as such, just people relaxing and having fun. Some choose to pursue other activities, fitting bits to their cars or repairing something, I generally cook and relax and take the occasional can of beer and have a laugh with my very good friends from the Ford Cougar Owners Club.

In life you never truly know what anything is like unless you try it ... curried goat Rich ? ... when we lived in Botswana I never fancied camping out in the bush, it never appealed to me, I got talked into a 10 day camping safari in the Okavango Delta, miles and miles from anywhere.. any form of civilisation, no tv no radio no phones not even a watch, and do you know what... that was one of the greatest times of my life, totally fantastic, and I was left wondering why I hadn`t done it earlier.
