Cougarfest Dilemma!

To be fair I did mention in another post that fest would still go ahead regardless of the facilitys ......however I don't mind paying a little more if its required .... although the Gazebo idea did sound viable, its survived so far ;)

£540 has been paid up so far if my maths are correct

Sorry to put a downer on this though its getting a bit confusing with all these threads, this one being set up so we could keep track of who had paid, its just got a little off topic of sorts, why doesn't someone merge he data into one thread?

I do agree Matt, having reviewed this thread, i am going to split it from Jason's post regarding the limitations. I am also going to lock the thread while i sort this out.
In short, this thread ie: the "PAID" thread, will be kept purely for the purpose it was set up.
The offshot thread will be this discussion. Hope you all understand.

Well - lets put it to the test then Alan - who of the attendees would be prepared to chuck in an extra £5/10 to get full facilities????? Please make yourselves known - thet's show the non attendees that nobody is going to p**s on our parade!!!!

Yup, I'd be happy to chuck in an extra fiver or tenner if it helps, no worries.

I will not accept extra money off of those already paid.

The £30 per car was based on the interest shown after last years event I didn't think we would have any problem at all getting 30 cars tbh when you factor in that out of those coming two households are bringing two cars it makes it all the more disappointing.

Manos I wrongly assumed you were bringing both cougars a refund will be issued.

The two car households well it's a relatively new thing I don't recall Manos bringing two cats to shows and Ria has not long had hers maybe it is unfair to charge £30 per car but given the struggling attendance the last two years I tried dropping the passenger fee, let's not forget we used to be able to have a larger (considerably) marquee TWO fridges and the BBQ.

I will not change it it is unfair to know tell those who have paid they now have to pay for passengers .

Either way a lot more said they would be attending than have.

JJ

Thanks for clearing that up JJ. Yes it is a disappointing turnout for the main event in the club calendar. Sincerely hope this isn't the last Fest :(

The fee for passengers was always a lower amount £5 - £10, the higher fee was always per car + the extra for each passenger to cover the amenities. We are bringing 2 cars and even with the considerable petrol bill, we are happy to pay that amount. We would also be willing to pay extra for the fridge and barbecue. By my reckoning, if there are 20 attendees, that works out at £15 each to cover it based on the original figures being worked out on an attendance of 30 cars. Obviously for every extra car over 20, the price goes down (Haven't checked how many have paid)
I have to say that I find the level of apathy for some people poor, but as always, not surprising, I can see where Alan is coming from with his "Don't give a ****, I'm going and will have a good time" type of comment although that will make the more insecure ones thinkmit's a clique and nobody wants them. After attending all CF's I have always had a good time and have always enjoyed meeting new members and friends. There have been reasons/excuses regarding non-attendance which are poor, especially considering that the date is pretty much set in stone each year now.
I would like to see a much bigger attendance, but hey, if a handful of us can have a great weekend in Peterborough and Tatton, then there's no reason why it can't happen in Grendan.
And JJ.........A lot of die-hards feel passionately about this event and would be willing to contribute to the extras, if we kow the cost, then we, as adults can make an informed decision, maybe vote on it even (members who've already paid) and all agree to go with the vote?
Right, I'm off to work to earn my beer tokens.

Attendance wise i know that with it only being a couple of weeks before the school holidays it becomes an expense that some just cannot justify, I mean how can you really justify a weekend p*** up costing you over £100 or more just before holiday season? My first fest was prior to me getting married and taking on 2 children, I have subsequently not been able to attend as money had always been tight around summer holidays, I am divorced now so I am coming even though i wont be in the Cougar :(

Indeed. If the shortfall is £10, £15 quid each to have the fridge & barbie I know I can't speak for every attendee, but I for one am in agreement with all those who have so far stated that they'd be happy to chuck in a few more quid. I - as I'm sure do most attending - have alternative cooking & cooling methods at my disposal, but the craic around that barbie last year was second to none, and as Kully has already mentioned, if it's going to be a warm one (we can only hope) then the longevity of the freshness of food must be called into question. Just how short are we?

Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that trips to the local supermarket could be an option, but for what it would cost in fuel alone to do this, surely a few more pennies into the club would be a better option? Additionally, despite it not affecting me, those who've had a heavy night might do well to stay off the roads the next morning

As for 'apathy' there was such a buzz after last year's event, and I lost count of all the '......sorry I couldn't make it, stick me at the top of the list for next year!' posts that appeared, that I thought we'd fill the field! I've paid a shade over fifty quid for myself and the short one for a long weekend away, and if this year is half as good as last year, it'll be money well spent. I understand that other commitments and financial constraints can get in the way, but don't be jumping up and down with your hand in the air shouting, "Me, me, me!!" if you can't commit 100%. I don't post on the Tatton, Harewood, & Silverstone threads because I know for a fact that it's highly unlikely that I'll be attending.

'Fest is our Glastonbury, and regardless of numbers I know it'll be a blast, because those who actually do attend will make it such.

.........Right, I'm off to work to earn my beer tokens.............

And I'd better get those Ribena tokens earned (y)

I don't particularly enjoy camping. I also live 20 minutes drive from Grendon. For this reason I choose not to stay at Fest for the entire weekend and for the last 3 years have only popped along on the Saturday to catch up with everyone put some faces to names and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never used the BBQ and last year didn't use the fridge but I still paid £30 to ensure that Fest could go ahead. Cougarfest needs to be supported guys. To me it is more than just a camping weekend away it is more like our AGM. We are supposed to be a club. The definition of Club :

An organization composed of people who voluntarily meet on a regular basis for a mutual purpose other than educational, religious, charitable, or financial pursuits. A club is any kind of group that has members who meet for a social, literary, or political purpose, such as health clubs, country clubs, book clubs.

I understand that for some people it is really difficult to travel to meets etc. and I can hear you all shouting. It's ok for you, you live in Northampton. But to be honest even if I wasn't going to fest and it wasn't close to home, I wouldn't mind paying extra each year in subs to guarantee this event continues. In the past I have given more to "members in need" threads. Perhaps it should be included in the annual subs and advertised as one free guaranteed event per year.

I don't understand why so many people show an interest until they have to stump up the money.

I hope you don't think I have overstepped the mark with this post , but I feel quite passionate about this topic. Trust me, if you came to fest you would understand. I really thought this club was more than just a faceless internet forum.

Rant Over !

Would it be worth setting up a poll to see when in the year is the best time to get the greatest number of possible attendees?

I know that there are people who dont like camping so you will never get them to turn up, then there are the people who live a distance away from the fest location who just cant justify the fuel costs. You have people with work commitments that can't attend and there are some people who have holidays around the same time. I am also sure there are plenty of other reasons why people cant actually make it.

There are several events on the calender that i enjoy going to, not just to meet up with fellow cougar nuts but also for the entertainment, ie the drifting at TRAX, the ford nuts who go to FORDFAIR and dont recognise the cougar as a ford

Last year I missed out on the entertainment at Cougarfest, things i would have liked to have seen include but are not limited to:

the water slide thingy-ma-jig
Crash Test Kully's amazing stunt show

:devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish::devilish:

This year I am making sure i will be there (y)

Polls are pointless because even if the date is changed people still need to physically commit. It's a crap job sorting events at the best of times and this is why. We have had some good turn outs for fest, and as I've said before, regardless of all the excuses listed above, there's plenty of notice and where will you get a cheaper weekend away?? Especially with so much entertainment Pmsl!!

When alls done, fest will probably be costing me £250 ish in food/fuel/drink/new camping accessories/cooking stuff(gas/coal etc) blah blah blah and I haven't even got a job! And I'm one of the people that gets tarnished with the "it's alright for them in midlands" shite. All poo, as we could easily throw out that those north of Sheffield only come out for Harewood and those south of Northampton don't go anywhere Pmsl. This year has seen some exceptions and fair play to Steve for attempting to represent and defend his southern brethren at Tony's  that was priceless!!

The only thing that guarantees any event is commitment at pay up time. Wouldn't matter if there were 1000 people's names down for fest because we'd changed the date to something else, if only 10 people pay then it's still been for sod all.

I was doubtful about 'fest last year, i.e. whether I'd enjoy it or not, but was so gutted I'd missed it when I saw the photo's, and read the stories of the antics that went on, I knew we had to come this year. We've got our wedding to pay for in September (well some of it) but will pay a sizeable fuel bill to bring both Cats, plus the extras (food drink etc), because this is the event of the year. I also am happy to pay a bit more for the BBQ, and fridge(I can't stand warm shandy;) )

I'm not in the best of moods at the moment but so far marquee is covered just about I propose we sort our own cool boxes and bbqs as if it was a camping weekend and treat it as such it's still going to be a blast as far as I am concerned and I'll be damned if having to bring a cool box and BBQ is going to ruin it for me.

ADVANCE WARNING!!

A Force Read is going to be put in place over the next 24 hours to give fest one last chance! It will detail the following :

If you are attending fest and as yet have not paid, the deadline is now
THIS Friday, the 24th June at midnight. Any payments not processed by then will see you off the list. The exception to this will be IF you are unable to make this deadline but are 100% on attending, YOU MUST pm myself or Jason directly stating a definite date that you are able to complete your payment along with your name and passenger details. This is to allow for pay day at the end of this month for those that absolutely need it!

This is
OFFICIALLY the last call for fest. Jason and I will be in talks on Saturday to see what we can manage aside from the marquee IF anything.

You have been warned people, so I don't want to see a single complaint about the force read not applying to you etc, it's for reasons like this that we have the facility. If you still feel the need to complain, please pm ME directly (y)

Thanks for reading,

Kully

We have an old fridge in the workshop that's on its last legs, but I'm pretty sure it still works. I will double check it tomorrow and if it is still kicking I will bring that. As I said in the other discussion thread, I have already discussed with my friend that it will cost £30 per person to attend which he agreed to pay, so as far as I am concerned, we are paying £60 for the 2 of us on Friday.

As for BBQs, I may be able to borrow one for the weekend, but I don't think I'd be able to fit it in the Cougar along with the fridge and camping equipment. My friend has a van, I may be tempted to ask him to drive there separately in the van if this is the only thing that will make JJ accept the other £30 :p If that is the case, I may be able to bring a gas bbq in his van. I'll check things out tomorrow and get back to you after work.

EDIT: Just remembered we have a petrol generator at work I can bring if electricity is going to be a problem. I don't mind bringing that if people want to help keep it supplied with petrol.

If its any concelation Jj my food and beer was still cold after Tatton Park and it wasn't a cool weekend if you know what I mean, and I just used a cool box. We always find there is too much food anyway IIRC, so maybe don't bring as much "perishable" goods like burgers etc. Just my profesional advice.

It would be good to have a fridge etc but as Matt said, Tatton wasn't a cold weekend and our food was still at an acceptable temperature by the end of the weekend. We actually froze all foods of beef origin which in itself keeps the temperature down and they can be cooked from frozen, this along with the cool packs did the trick.

See you there Cougar people!:cool::cool::cool:
