Just having a look at how many Cougars are still on the road site thing and now I'm puzzled.
I know you have the C1 and C2 Cougars, but on the V6 you also have the V6 VX, so is the VX just a V6 with the X-pack, my one has all the extras as standard, but on the logbook is just a Cougar V6.
So does a Cougar VX exist?
 
No.
In the UK you could select the X pack upgrade as well as other optional extras but it was still just a Cougar. There were no VX, Ghia or anything like that.
 
I think its just a name they used on the V5 for the X Pack - but maybe they didn't use it throughout Cougar production? What year is your car? Doesn't mean anything else as far as I know.

Mine's an early one - a Febuary '99 X-Pack and is down as a Cougar V6 VX on the logbook.

I never knew that :)
My first Cougar was a 99 x-pack but was just "Cougar" on the log book.

Looking at the HowManyAreLeft site (which I assume Keith is) I can only say that there is a distinct lack of consistency across the board - regardless of the make - with respect to model/trim. The Rover Coupe and for that matter the R3-200 data is a complete joke.

Someone here (I don't remember who so I'm sorry I can't credit you) explained that the data HowManyAreLeft uses comes from dealers, traders and scrappers and relies on them knowing what they have in front of them and recording it accurately. They often don't - even the bloody dealers - so it's really more of a guideline.

My old 99 x-pack was marked the same, just "Cougar" on the v5. My C2 is "COUGAR2"on the v5. I think it's just down to what the supplying dealer wrote on the form for DVLA.
The supplier of my old C1 even got the VIN number wrong. Shockingly, I managed to get it changed by simply sending the v5 back with a correction. Amazing how you can change the identity of a car so easily.

Very true Manos. DG's id is simply "COUGAR".
 
As I have seen the Cougar referred to as a VX, I thought I was missing out on something, as my V5 has Cougar V6 auto, its a silver 2000 with the x-pack, the dreaded sun roof (still working), heated screen, spoiler, most everything.
I added the 6000cd as I didn't get on with the 6006E, also added the remote stalk and a parrot.
As said I have seen on the net references to VX, maybe its just salesmen speak, I even came across things like THIS manual transmission with cruise control.
