Just received delivery of a new handbrake cable from Paynes. I was a little bit annoyed to see that they have printed my telephone number, for all to see, on the address label. Has anyone else noticed the same ? Are they allowed to do that ?

Not sure on the legalities of it mate. Think they put it on there for the delivery drivers, as I know they sometimes outsource, so if there is a problem with delivery they can ring you. iirc they did the same to me when my stuff was sent via courier. I think they just copy and paste the info from eBay (if thats how you purchased it...i.e. through their eBay shop?)

Yep, it was through e-bay. I'm sure I won't start getting loads of dodgy phone calls, but just thought it was a bit strange.

A lot of places do it now. Cuts down on the number of returned parcels if they can ring you and ask if it can be left or rescheduled. I'd rather that option than the old days especially with DHL when you'd get a card through the door and have to collect it yourself. Our nearest collection centre was in the next city and a good half an hours drive!

we do it for every parcel we send out nation and worldwide for the simple reason of non delivery so driver can contact you and ask for another source of delivery (ie friend or next dooor neighbour you trust )rather than taking it back to depot and re-deliver at another time.

Lol ! Just had a thought. They put it on there so they can ring me if I'm not in ?? Err ... Who's gonna answer the phone ??

That's an easy one....the guy that's in your house and about to have it away with the tv set, dvd, oh and the missus knickers....lol

We use DHL/Yodel and supply the phone numbers where possible but they don't print them on the labels but the drivers can see them on their little electonic hand sets.

House numbers are useful for when the driver can't find the house.
