Having been out at the cougar I'm selling and just started her up I'm in two minds again

So here is the issue it needs some work to be perfect for my liking

Front bumper needs replaced small kink nothing noticible unless you go looking at the bottom of it
rear one has scuffs
tailgate needs replaced
rustrou d the rear arches ideally rear bumper of and get in behind and round the curve were the bubbles are to get rid of the rust for good
and when u derneath that fuel pipe for the tank don't look to pritty

I ain't selling her here listing all the faults I know but what if?

Next year i could run it as less bills should I let it sit for a year and work on these parts

I am worked abut the engine yes it purs but already had an experience of oil rings going on a 16v probe before and don't want the same to happen here
it already has had a very lazy life with 50k on the clock is there any way I can prevent the engine going that way?

If there is away of me keeping her I will to me 650quid is giving her away when's she could be a future classic so easily
 
In all honesty Andy they are your cars, make a decision

No matter how much information you post on here, you will still know more about them

If you want to keep it, keep it, but at the end of the day it is only worth market value
 
Andy, it's clear you love the car and are in two minds as to whether to get rid.

Assuming you have somewhere to keep it and another way to get about, I'd say spend some time seriously working out what it'll realistically cost you to put right as you see it.

Personally - for what it's worth - I'd have a mechanically sound car that'll pass an MOT rather than one that's cosmetically pristine.
 
I wouldn't want to sell such a low millage car for so little, bumpers and tailgate if you keep looking around I am sure you could pick them all up for around £60. It has 50k not 150k you could drive it till it blows up and get £400+ breaking it.
 
Is there any thing I should do when storing it then it will be getting work done but will be sorned just don't want the engine goosing up or do these engines not have the oil ring issues like probes
 
ideally store on axle stands, helps prevent damage to tyres ,start every now and again let it warm up fully,
turn heater on full to keep water circulation going, whilst on stands gently go through lower gears keeps clutch from sticking, occasionally drain battery down slowly and trickle charge back up
 
Well going to have to keep it but finish one car at a time still got to get the one serviced I'm using and it will go to a garage as its got fsh
 
Andy, if I was you I would keep it and do the work that you think of know need doing when you can afford it. To be honest, the way I look at having a cougar is that I enjoy driving it and I am not into the modding side so much, I will just keep driving it till it breaks and assess the situation then. You would be giving it away for 650 and 50k on the clock is nothing really.

Perfect advice for any laid-up car. I'll add letting it slowly roll the front wheels and turning the back ones by hand.

50k.. keep it man! , all those things? is time more than money really.
get your wire brush out and give it some down under with the wax oil ,it served me well over the years i never really went for cosmetic till now and its still slow slow but getting there.
the plastic arches are well easy to remove on the back as well as the front, and you get more room to clean up and wax everything well worth it. no more rusty crap. do it :)
