Hi from Norway.

My fiance needs a new engine for her 2.5 V6 year 2000.
What engines and year will fit?
Not so many Cougars over here, is the Mondeo engine a direct swap?

Thanks in advance

Yep. A new or restored Mondeo/Contour V6 engine should be fine.

There's subtle (capacity) differences across the years and models, but most Duratec 25s will be okay as long as you keep the electronics (and looms) with the car.

One difference that you might find is that some of them have a knock sensor in the back of the block. It's basically a very sensitive microphone that listens to the combustion cycle.

If your car doesn't have it but the donor does, just leave it disconnected, or use the blanking plate from your car.

If your car has it but the donor doesn't, just leave the connector tied up out of the way. It will never sense anything so the ECU won't get a signal and won't care.

Good luck!

Never done it but if I ever have to I'll be dropping the 3 litre version in, almost no matter what it's got to be worth the effort.

Before you even consider it, be aware that the few conversions that have been done have suffered with some interesting wiring/ECU problems.

Clearly it can be done - I've had the privilege of working on one myself - but it's far from a straight swap. Good luck if you do though.

it was only the catastrophe that was Gavs engine swap later Jim's, Daves went fairly smoothly and Damiens was almost as easy as a drop in (y)

The V6 is pretty bullet proof for an engine, its only when they have been run dry you get problems, are you certain the engine is kaput?

Thanks Mako hopefully I won't be doing it any time soon I'd like to think my 2.5 will last a little while yet. But never say never.

Unless you're very unlucky or really neglectful, the Duratec 25 is almost bomb-proof compared to some of the grenades I've owned. All the best, mate.

We seem to have had a fair bit of practice lately. Maybe we should all rock over to Norway(y)

I guess they're all getting to that age though, sadly. I don't speak Norwegian, but I do speak the international language or bacon and vodka if that's any help?

As it happens, the Rover Coupe club had someone come over from Norway to Cambridge for a gearbox swap! We could perhaps reciprocate. I need a holiday.
