Hey guys!

Well, I have been away from here for over a year...I know I know! Anyways, I had to get rid of my old Zetec due to a job loss. Long story short, I regretted it ever since.

I now have an opportunity to possibly get myself a 2001 C2 in a nice green. It's done 153k and the owner has some history with it (although I'm not sure what yet as I'm off to look at her tomorrow).

So here's the question to the more experienced owners: what should I be looking out for, or should I walk away due to the high mileage? (I'm not sure how long the old Zetec will go, see!)

Cheers again and lets hope everything is all well and I can get my sorry arse back into the forums here again!

Hmm, a V6 with that many miles, I'd say as long as it had been looked after it'd be worth a punt at the right price. A Zetec? I'm not so sure. That said, if the car is cheap enough, an entire engine swap shoul be under a grand.

Yeah, I'm just a little paranoid about the miles is all. It may be a straight swap for my 2000 Megane Coupe 1.6, see. I've swapped cars in the past and haven't had any real issues as I'm pretty careful. I'd love a V6, but even though work pay towards my petrol, I still couldn't really justify the drop in MPG (I'm getting just over 41 combined...) though I AM getting really tempted with the duratec..!

TBH, there isn't a massive difference in MPG between a Zetec and a V6. Sure, the Zetec is a little more economical, but it's not a night and day difference. Remember, the Zetec is still a 2.0 16v engine in a big, heavy car. Round town, a sensibly driven V6 will return late 20s/early 30s MPG (very respectable a 2.5l 6 cylinder engine) and a Zetec wouldn't be hugely more. On a run, you can easiy get 36+ MPG from a V6 at the national speed limit, a Zetec will give you probably early to mid 40s at the same speed.

Hmm, see, I've a pretty light foot on the motorways (I have to have)..it's when I hit the B roads my boots seem to fill with lead...

As to the cat I'm seeing tomorrow, you reckon I should hold fire and be patient, or have a look?

No harm in looking mate, just don't feel pressured to buy the first one you see. It's a buyer's market at the moment, with plenty of very tidy Cougars available at bargain basement prices.

Unfortunately Scunny, I'd love to but due to all our spare cash being tied up in the ferret rescue me and my other half run, I don't have the spare cash - hence the swapsies :-( I'd much rather have one from someone on here though.

Oh I could mate; I reckon I could get up to £1000 for it; but the other thing is that I use my car every day for work (I'm a school photographer) so I can't be without a car! Life's never straight forward with me heheh!
