finally getting round to doing something with it.

Nice work dude (y)

Can you fit a stick on (E type style) number plate ?

That's the plan. Got one ordered just can't decide where to put it, either offset on the bumper Alfa style or on the front of the bonnet. Think i am going to go for the bonnet as it will also hide some stone chips until i get around to sorting them properly.

I think it is a rectification notice and £60 fine same as a incorrectly spaced plate, there was a notice on number plates at garage I was at the other day (mot station) and I was reading through it the honeycomb background are also illegal now despite being standard issue a few years back, the regs have really tightened up with ANPR cameras around now as its automatic policing as long as it can read the plates.

I can't find the exact form online I saw in the garage but the set of regulations I have found (using my phone it's a PDF on gov website) state it has to meet a set standard for reflectivity which should be stamped on the plate they mention "reflex reflectivity" (can't remember the code) I certainly wouldn't chance a stick on one on the bonnet as it will highlight the fact it is a stick on one.

I'll try and go to the garage and photo the form it was a very new set of guidelines issued as the MOT tester said he had only got them around 6 weeks ago.

All registration marks including marks purchased through DVLA's sales scheme must be displayed in accordance with The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 (obtainable from Her Majesty's Stationery Office).
Rules for the display of number plates are set out in law, briefly these are: -
● A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions).
● Number Plates must be easy to read and meet the British Standard.
● Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear.
● The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.
● There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973.
● Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shown at:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001.

Providng the white backing is reflective, then I can't see a problem. Ive got a self adhesive number plate on the front of my car (not a coug)

Not had any problems with it since being fitted last year.

Copied from a google search..

Number plates have to meet a certain BS standard, which contains requirements of rigidity, to be legal. Therefore no "sticker backed" plates are legal, regardless of any other factor.

After 1999 all number plates unless factory manufactured will by required to be mounted vertical, not horizontal I,E: flat on a bonnet.
They must also carry a BS mark, be reflective and have the correct letter sizing and spacing.

Look into those retractable plate holders. You can pop the plate out while driving etc then just flick it away for pics and shows etc.

Got the adhesive plate today so i though i would fit it just to see what it looks like.

Aside from the questionable legality of it i am not sure i like it on the bonnet. What do you all think?

LooKs awful IMO. I'd stick it to the bumper temporarily and sort out what you're doing for definite. The retractable frame thing wouldn't take a lot to put on a switch with a little motor so you could operate it from inside the car.

Yours is a pre 99 car? then i think different rules apply..?? I could be wrong, but would be interesting to find out.. (y)

Ive been and spoken to my MOT tester today about self adhesive plates in general and from what he has said as long as it is on a reflective background, the correct size and spaced lettering and is secure then it won't be a problem regradless of the age of the car.

have to agree, just doesn't suit the car at all
was just looking at these retractable plates on youtube and I have to agree they look very slick indeed!
