Flying Legends Airshow

Gill and I are on for Flying Legends 2007.......

We'll almost certainly be there both days and we'll be a bit more careful about stripping the car clean at night to save the thieves doing it

Ticket prices are still steep at ?ú28 in advance or ?ú29.50 on the day but it does make a good day out 8)

If anyone else fancies it, we'll be delighted to see you there

Should have used a bigger brush

P.S. It's lucky for me that there are enough people who long careers in aviation who do want to get stuck back in on their days off

I have to say that with the lighting and the clouds, the pictures have an almost sepia feel to them. They could have been taken in WWII.

Great pix, Manos. Looks like a really good day.
Thats mad is it me or does it look almost like a painting

Flying Legends 2007

Right, looks as though there will be a mini-meet here on the Saturday?

So far we have:

Me, Gill, my daddy, his g/f
Manos & Mo
Hopefully Dave the Moostang and his wife Sharon?
Maybe Steve McQueen? :D

Here's the guff:

Gill and I are a couple of geeks - we'll be waiting before the gates open  because we love wandering round the airfield when it's very quiet, slightly misty, cool, moody, atmospheric and of course we head straight for the cafe by the tower and have a huge cooked breakfast

I'll make sure everyone has phone numbers etc closer to the time so we can be sure to meet up (last year we met Manos by pure luck rather than anything else!)

As a final point, I believe Manos and Mo have, and I certainly have family memberships of "The Friends of the Fighter Collection". Slightly sad on the surface, I know, but the money does go into keeping these beautiful machines flying for my visual and aural pleasure so I don't mind paying it. A major bonus is that they have a seated enclosure with free tee, coffee, squash and biscuits so you dont have to stand or sit on grass or concrete for the afternoon's flying :D

I've remembered who this was...

It was Ray Hanna - filming for the 1980's TV drama series "Piece of Cake".

He died aged 77 on 1 Dec 2005 in his sleep at his home. He was highly conspicuious by his absence last year at Flying Legends. He was famous for his spirited displays of that Spitfire in particular, which was possibly the most popular of his "Old Flying Machine Company's" small collection.

My claim to fame is that I met his son, Mark (and 10 months later Ray himself very briefly), on the last day of my RAF Flying Scholarship when I was 17 at Dundee airport - who after running into my dad who'd turned up to watch my last check flight waited around for an hour or so until I'd landed to show have a chat to me about how to get into flying these sort of machines - and I got to strap myself into that very Spitfire. There's a signed Polaroid somewhere my little sister took with her Spice Girls edition polaroid camera

Mark died 13 months later in Spain arriving for an airshow.

And if their enclosure is in the same position as last year I'd say it was the best place to be with all the spitfires parked alongside. I didn't need any special lenses to take the picture a few posts above. :D

Mo isn't a maybe Jamie. She's coming.

Any last minute additions to our mini-meet at Duxford - 7th & 8th July?
There's also a BBQ a couple of miles away at my house on the Saturday evening.

Attendees so far
jamie_duff, Mrs Boo & 1 Cougar
FlamencoAssassin, Mo & 2 Cougars

I had a PM from McQueen just as we were driving down to Fest saying he'd like to come - but heard nothing else since. Think he's watching the weather forecast.

If anyone's not too far and still feeling the love after Fest, come along. It's really not a boring day out at all - loads to see - you can go flying in vintage biplanes, get a ride in a tank, drink beer, eat Angus steak burgers, ride fairground rides etc etc :D
