Going to look at a Cougar

Right, so basically, I bought it!

Not bad at all! Tyres on the front are low and will need changing, and it needs taxing, but apart from that, its all good! Just need to shift my Mondeo fast really as I'm moving my insurance from one car to the other.

Does anybody know what tax band these are so i have a rough idea of how much I'm going to be?

If it's pre-March 2001 then it'll be the same as your Mondeo (y)

EDIT: It's a 2000 model so it will be the same :)

Fantastic! Well theres a few pennys saved!

I'll post photos up once i get her back, at the minute she's in there yard but I have all the keys etc. So just have to go and get it once the insurance is swapped over.

Cheers guys, hope not! :p

I'll have to wait til next payday to joy as a subscriber, but you've got one here now. I know from MEG how much having a forum full of people who have done it before help!

Going to pick her up tonight! Woo!

Had a really panic last night thinking about whether I checked this or that... crazy stuff! Anyway, got all the insurance transfered over, got a ticket for the window. So just need to look up a local pump to the dealer and go fill her up and drive her home!

Got her back no issues! Only one thing I've noticed is the lights flicker when on tick over. Battery? Or something more sinister?

Good news dude, you are one of us now !!!

Do the dials do a full sweep when you turn the ignition on, if so, battery, if not put a voltmeter across the battery terminals, should be 14+ volts when engine running and alty charging correctly

No. The dials doing a full sweep at startup is the car's way of telling you that your battery doesn't have enough charge and needs attention. I believe it also does it at the first startup following a battery disconnection, however.

Most V6s (don't know if Zetecs are the same) have an element of 'pulsing' at tickover, it's emphasised futher if you start putting the heated screens on. The problem seems to stem from the alternator not being correctly earthed from the factory and can be helped greatly by soldering an extra cable from the battery connection to the chassis (I think). There's a fairly comprehensive how-to somewhere on this site. All that said, a few people have had their alternators give up, even in the two years I've been in the club, the cars are simply getting to be 'a certain age' and require a bit of rejuvenation now and then.

Andy, don't panic too much mate, my lights pulse at tickover and always have to some degree, I have had a new battery and it's still the same, by alty charges fine too, also it did the same on my last cat..

Seems to be a Ford thing. I've had two cats and a Mk2 and Mk3 Mondeo and they all did this on tickover. Nothing to worry about unless your battery light starts to flicker under hard acceleration (y)

rightio, cheers guys! You know how it is, new purchase, considerably worried as to whether I've bought a lemon!

I'll get some proper photos up at the weekend when I've had a chance to clean it (again!)
