Not a tech question as such but has any one used halfords oil before they currently have 5w 30 fully synthetic oil for a £10 im sure the garage only put semi in mine in may and im thinking i should try and do it every six months

I have run my v6 on fully synth halfords own without issue

Have used the semi synth in Stripes and Goblin, altho Goblins developed a minor bottom end knock when cold it seems to have gone away (fingers crossed) Stripes has done over 70k on the stuff
The way i see it is that if i used cheap oil and my engine pooped then i would blame myself..if i used Ford oil and it pooped i would blame Ford.
I just dont see the point skimping on oil when its only £30 every 6000 miles.

i seen that castroel at asdas today 12 quid i would rather pay the extra 2 quid and get that so thats my plan for next sunday
When I do a full change I use Castrol, because Costco has deals on it a couple times a year - and that's the only reason I do. I top off using Halfords 5W30 and have never had a problem with it. I've treated all my cars the same.
But oil is a big old subject and I'm not qualified apart from experience.
If it's certified, I don't see why not. But if in doubt - if the engine doesn't "like" it - go back to what you know.

ps last time i checked service on V6's is every 10k too, as long as its kept topped up and not parked nose uphill it will be fine
Yeah its recommended 10k between oil changes but i prefer to change mine ak 6k. If the recommendation was 5k then i would change it at 3k.
Maybe its just me being paranoid but i once suffered a dramatic engine failure at speed on the motorway which nearly killed me.
And on what basis is an oil to be judged as "fine"? theres 3 people who have posted on this thread that Halfords oil is "fine" all 3 have had engine problems.

I use Castrol 5W 30 that is Ford recommended. Both Halfords and Eurocar Parts sell it and I buy it when it becomes on offer. Never had any issues at all with it. I change mine every 5K which is just under a years worth of motoring for me.
If the oil meets the manufacturers spec, then it's most likely down to the car owner or previous owner if the car ***** up.

I agree with this. I really do not think a company as big as Castrol can really afford to supply the general public with a rubbish grade of oil. Sometimes engines just let go, that is the way it is with motoring.
