Hi there,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Purchased my Cougar back at the end of March and have not stopped loving it ever since.

It's a 1998 V6, silver, X pack, 108k miles and no modifications (yet).

I joined the forums several days after buying the car, mainly to find out some basic information about the overhead warning lights and a few other small bit and pieces. I've returned to the site ever few weeks just out of curiosity, but I think I'm ready to take the plunge and come back on a daily, maybe even hourly basis (y).

Glad to report no major problems with it as of yet, but there is 1 minor issue that I'm currently working on, the fuel filler neck pipe is heavily rusted and leaks on the upright section of the pipe. I managed to get another pipe from a cougar being dismantled nearby and I'm in the process of reconditioning that one and then let the local garage swap them over. Also in the last few week I've noticed a strange noise coming from under the bonnet when starting up from cold, after searching around these forums and also google, I think sounds like Moosing.

To do:
- Replace side repeated with clear/smoked. Does anyone have a preference which looks better on silver?
- Clean up the headlights. Although I've noticed they both get condensation in these damp conditions, worth getting another pair off ebay?
- Clean up roof rails or exchange them.
- Recondition the wheels.

Don't worry, I don't tow the caravan with the Cougar!

Hope to have a good time on here!!

Hi Mark, welcome to the club, very clean example of a cougar you have there... (y) Having changed the fried eggs many times on may cougars i have decided that dark smoked ones look best on the frosty.. but it's all down to personal choice at the end of the day.. Be warned, it's the first mod most people do, and then your hooked...

Hello Mark and welcome to the forum. As Add says it's all a matter of personal preference but clear, crystal ones with a chromed bulb are best;)
As for headlamps you'll be hard pressed to find ones now that don't get condensation in them to a greater or lesser extent. Ford did update the rubber vents on the back of them from the earlier 'T' shaped ones to a sloped drain.
I can recommend Alan's vinyl refurb exchange service for the roof rails:

Looks to be a very tidy example you have there.

Hi Mark, welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.
Exchange roof rails you say..........;) http://www.ukcougarforum.com/vb/showthread.php?20660-Vinyl-wrapped-roof-rails-(exchange)

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum and enjoy your Cougar

Most likely. Mine moosed for the first time in absolutely ages today, but it was -3 C. A quick stab on the throttle stopped it and it never came back.

I went for clear with chrome bulbs, that gets my vote!

Sounds like my list but they keep getting delayed due to buying tyres, car tax etc, no time - oh and SWMBO . . . .
You can be assured you will have a good time on here!

Thank you all for the very warm welcome!

I'll have a trip to a Ford dealers tomorrow to see if they still do the part to fix the Moosing.

I'm certainly interested in this service, I'll have to send you a PM in the new year to arrange something.

Is that an XAV registration you have there?
Unfortunately not, but you were only 1 out, YAV.
