Hello to all those Cougar owners out there. I got into the Couger scene purely down to
an MOT failure and it was one i just couldn't turn my back on....so £200 later i'm now
a Cougar owner. Having owned Ford cars (must have had about 50 in all:sleep:), iv'e had the
spanners out a few times so this is really a project in my early retirement.
So being my first Cougar i'd appreciate any "always do this" or "never do that."
My first job is to swap out the Rear Sub frame, then it's discs & pads, then it's
power window service, then it's radio not working, then it engine hesitates......
Can't wait to get started !!!!!! :LOL:
 
Ahh the joys of Ford ownership... welcome to the House of Fun...

Engine hesitation might be down to plugs - that would be my first port of call - a good service is a must for any used car, no matter what the previous owner tells you... and then assume it may have stood idle for six months and needs an oil-change followed by a good thrashing to clear any crud out.
Tyres: the car I bought three weeks ago (my second Cougar and fourth Duratec-engined car) has a set of ten year old tyres on it and they're all but perished, despite having lots of tread. Some low-mileage cougars have tyres on that are even older (one I looked at last month had the original tyres still fitted - they must have been like solid wood after all this time).

as said good service, don't forget petrol filter as there are a few that have never been done (prone to people forgeting) also pollen filter and at same time to clear the drain holes in the scuttle area as well, engine oil prefers/recommended the 5w/30
 
Welcome to the home of the Cougar mate. I feel sure you will have it running just perfect in no time at all. Plenty of time on your hands now that you have taken early retirement. That's what I thought when I did the same thing 11 years ago, but, you find now that there are not enough hours in the day to do everything you want to do.
