Hi All New guy on here after a lil info please

Hello and welcome to the forum.
If you're not too far from Harewood House UKCougar.com will be represented by a dozen or so members this coming Sunday. A chance to meet a few people and have a gander at their Cats.

Yea sweet ill clean her up for it. you got any spare spaces?

I was thinking ill do the full manifold injectors airbox maf and bellows but not do the cams as like you said add_issan its too much ******* about to do the cams IMHO for the gains. If my HG went tho id do em deffo lol same with the fly ill do it when i do the clutch, its gettin near the top so its a no brainer.

Im thinking ill just get the Collins J3 powerchip for the ECU port but jus get an st200 map code not my box code on it after fitting the manifold etc. That will be possible?

Hi and welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.

Yea but alot of parts and fixes are spread across the ford range making it easy to understand and get the info & bits if required.

What mods u got? what did u notice when u did each bit?

Wow, somebody actually answered Al's cut & paste welcome!

Welcome to the club Stifler. No particularly ground breaking mods on mine. It's a 2000 (W) V6 X-Pack in Melina Blue with a Racebits induction kit (no discernable effect on performance but it sounds nice and, strangely, slightly improved the fuel economy), painted IMRC cover and a few stainless odds and sods under the bonnet. The wheels are 17s with 215/45/R17 tyres and I've changed the screen for a heated one (best 'mod' by far), I've also swapped the rear lights lenses for US spec ones without the orange indicator portion. Inside I've ugraded the headunit to a Sony MEX-1GP, changed the dials for custom Speedhut ones, fitted Lockwood stainless sill kick plates, custom made floor mats and a gearknob from a Mk5 RS2000. In the future I plan to change the tyres for 225/45/R17s, fit Eibach springs, CatFabs strut braces front and rear, upgrade the lights to HID and perhaps fit a boot spoiler. I'd like some C2 leather seats, but then again so would a lot of other people and they're ever so very rare!

Hi stifler, welcome to the forum. As regarding mods, if you go for the ST200 injectors, you will need a ST200 ECU, as the standard V6 map will just lead to overfuelling. ST200 UIM is a good mod (and one I'm hoping to do once funds allow), but you may already have the ST200 LIM, as some Cats were fitted with them (and later ST24's as well), to find out which you have check your fuel rail, if it's round topped, then you have the ST200 LIM, if it's flat topped then you don't. As you've already mentioned, you can remove the 3rd Cat, as you still have the pre-cats, or you could fit stainless steel exhaust manifols, which also come with a freer flowing Y pipe, and fit a sports cat. Be warned though, changing the manifolds is a PITA, and far easier with the engine out. Once all the performance mods are fitted, then it's time to get it remapped to tie all the mods together. I would personally go for a remap whilst it's on a rolling road, because live mapping is customised for your engine, rather than a generic map for a V6, having said that Bluefin can be customised to your engine mods, if you let Superchips know what you've fitted. Hope this is of some help.

personally i dont like the bluefin as you pay alot for something which just gets thrown away after 1 use so to speak. better to spend that kind of cash on the RR as you say for deffo.

anyone else have things to add re my original post in the thread? anything is useful.

Also any of you guys have ever have lumpy running at constant speed/revs ie at say 30 in 3rd? and i dont mean like a misfire i mean like its moving some egr imrc etc in the background? i get it a bit now n then. it kinda feels like when the ac pump comes on n off at constant revs/speed

I have done the ST200 Upper, Lower manifolds, TB, Cable + Pipercross Viper and I have noticed a massive difference to the throttle response. I did not do the green injectors ( I have still got them ) as I did not get the ST200 ECU.
I plan to do the Stainless Steel Manifold, Y-Pipe, Sports Cat + Remap and I am hoping that should see me around the 200 BHP mark.
Good luck with your efforts and keep us posted to your progress.

nice one peter thanks for the advice.
Ive got another thread open about a flywheel upgrade and ive just picked it up. Interesting guy i got it off.
He wasnt in when i landed at his crib and had to wait (look) around. he had an st200 i presumed he was breaking as it had no tax tisc in the window. so i looked closer at it thinking i might take a few bits off it while i was there. it had the stainless headers and y and a std exh apart from that. clock showed 133000 miles engine did have oil all over it, looked like rear main seal. then he rolled up with an st200 lump on the back of a van! it was rough lookin lump but it was complete so i picked his brains a bit about what he had etc and what was for sale from the car. he said the car was on the road and he buys bits to improve his and sells the surplus! not a bad idea IMO that.

Anyways he was sayin he had a set of cams and did i want em. I told him i didnt think they were worth the effort and he said they were easy peasy lol ann showed me another lump in his back garden (which the fly came off) it only had the rocker covers and top chain cover off and he said all he does is take off the cam journals 2 cams at a time (1bank) then pick them up and they just come out as the chain goes slack!
Is it that easy on these motors? i was thinking it would be a nightmare to do

Try disconnecting the egr pipe and plug it. Sounds like classic symptoms to me.

Funny you say that i code read it last week and got a code for low egr flow. i erased it and checked it 3 days later. no codes so you may be right about the egr

Do you need the MAF with the ECU change and injectors or is it irrelevant?

Hi stifler, welcome to the forum. As regarding mods, if you go for the ST200 injectors, you will need a ST200 ECU, as the standard V6 map will just lead to overfuelling. If you get the ECU and injectors do you need the MAF?

I think the MAF's are the same but the bellows are a bit different. I forgot to say I had also changed both these parts as well from the standard ones to the st200 ones.
TBH if you are going the whole hog and changing it all over then you might as well just try to find a complete engine with ECU, unless you already got most of the parts.
It really depends on what you are after out of it all. If you want to be pushing 250 BHP then you will need the ST200 engine + ECU route, as I really do not think you will get to that figure without it as it chucks out 205BHP standard, so with Headers, Y-Pipe, Sports Cat, SS exhaust, Uprated airfilter + Remap you should get the 45 BHP needed to get it up to 250BHP. I am sure there are plenty of Mondeo St200 owners who have done the above and managed it.
As I have already said, I will be happy with 200 BHP with all the stuff I have done to my car and I do feel I should get to that figure easy enough.

yea id like the std set up for the st200 but on a custom map. if i could get 220 id be a happy man. might be worth goin for the 4x4 running gear then. bet they drive great

Just for info, the ST200 MAF is exactly the same as the standard V6 (checked when my ST200 swap was done).

Until just over a month ago I was running with the ST200 UIM, TB, bellows, ST200 air box with K&N panel filter (engine already had the larger LIM), SS exhaust and sports main cat. Everything else was standard.
It was certainly a big improvement - better throttle response and and more torquey at the lower half of the rev range, not much different at the top end of the rev range.

Now I have a full ST200 conversion (engine, ECU, gearbox [slightly different ratios]), plus MSDS headers, SS Y-pipe.
It's just about run in now. The lower half of the rev range is similar to my previous mods, just a little more refined. The upper half of the rev range, it carries on flying. I'm still on the standard ST200 map and I'm pretty happy with it but will probably consider a RR remap eventually.
My current setup puts a big smile on my face, it's smooth refined and and quick. Sounds lovely too.

Comparing it with my previous mods is probably a little unfair but I also have a bog standard Cougar and the ST is definitely light years apart from it. :)

right so the extra bits from the easy ones are what give the top end and the easy ones give the extra the lower end.

Yeah I would agree with that. I am happy with what I got as I always felt that it was a bit sluggish off the mark, but with the upgrades I got it is miles better low down, I am not after top end speed as I do not go anywhere to really get it going. It really depends on how deep your pockets are lol !!!
