Hi, new to the car, new to the forum.

You can see this without taking off the airbox though; put the steering on full right lock and peer up just in front of the steering track rod.

Note that this is extremely unlikely to leave you stranded/unable to change gear. The cables sheaths are held very firmly in the brackets, and the inners are very stiff. Therere isn't enough flex in the cable inners to allow them to just flop off the selector arms.

For reference, mine has been like this for about 8 months now and it hasn't bothered me enough to hunt down a new cable end to fix it.

:edit: Thirty-seven quid?! I hope you get a kiss from them first.
Hate to disagree Mate. Luci's popped off randomly. Sucks but hey after you put it back on a time or two its a quick process. I had a hot air intake though so access was a little easier

No, that's cool! I can only go from my own experience. When I first diagnosed the problem I decided to test what would happen if I pulled the cable end off the selector arm. It just recoiled back on. *Twang!* *Bonk!* It was like one of those springy doorstops.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

I mean I do intend to fix this eventually, but nothing about the way that Tiger has acted over the last 8 months has given me cause for concern. I'm hoping it'll hang on until I need to do my clutch.

Either your lucky or I just shift harder lol

Would love to be able to go to an event like that, but I don't think my car is worthy.
Needs numerous sorting.

Everyone is warmly welcomed no matter what their car is like

last year at Combe we changed a Cat and sanded down a rear quarter panel.
we like fixer-uppers :)

I turned up with this shame and was still more than welcomed!

First time I had been to a show with the club and as even as a first timer the awesome people of this club helped me change the cat convertor and gave me lots of advice on getting the rear quater panel sorted.

Ah.
That's where my first problem might be.
I take it, it can only be done from undernieth?
I'm disabled, if I get down there, I'll never get up again.
I can just about do jobs from top, but groundwork is not my forte.

I would suggest taking the airbox off then and looking down from above. You can see the entire top, most of the front, and some of the back of the trans with the airbox out of the way. The cable end on the trans is what added all the play in my black car. It'll be the larger of the ends. Mine was white I believe.

As Rooster says, you can see it from above. But actually fixing it from there would be supremely awkward unless you're really tall and flexible.

I am neither of those things. Which, incidentally, is why this band of miscreants and poltroons always send me under their cars.

If you were to obtain:

1) The cable end,
2) Bacon, rolls and sauce...

...I feel you could call an MFSM that at least one of us would attend to assist you. And since your car is driveable, you'd increase your odds if you made your way to one of our garages.

Just a thought... :)

Yeah ummm I'm 6 foot 2 inches since I shrunk a little. Getting to it from the top is super easy for me. And I have skinny hands that i'm able to snake in around the brake servo and such. I seem to remember mine was the one super easy to get to though even without tall and snakey.

Before actually buying the end I'd just do bacon and whatever to get one of these fine Chaps over to the house to make sure thats what it is for sure. That being what fixed mine doesnt necessarily mean thats your problem. It could be in the shift tower on the trans,(unlikely but possible) or it could be the shifter, or it could be the plastic piece at the end of the cable that holds it in place in the shifter and on the bracket on the trans. Id hate to see you spend money on a cable part when its either the wrong part or wasn't cable related.

hi guys, and happy w/ends to y'all.

it works 'OK', so i'll leave that for now.
many thanks for all your helpings.

Alas, I'm at the wrong end of the A1.

Did there used to an interactive map on here showing member's locations or was that a different forum?

Not seen a map but it is a good idea (y)

It might have been on the Suzuki boards.

Basically you pinned where you were based, quite a nice little thing. I'll have a look and see if I can track it down....

There was a member's location map on here at one time.

IIRC the thread was called 'Let's Map Out' but I've got a recollection of the website hosting the map ceasing to function??
